Nudging People Towards a Happy, Healthy Workplace

Nudging People Towards a Happy, Healthy Workplace

Working better, healthier, happier isn't difficult. And often we already know how. It's just that we need to be reminded, or better said, nudged. Our new Workplace Interventions project does just that.

No matter how beautiful your office, how wonderful your team… work-life can be challenging, overwhelming and at times, outright stressful. But good news, there are many small things you can do that immediately improve your current situation! The key is simply to stop and snap out of your auto-pilot behavior.

This level of (psychological) wellbeing at work now occupies a central place in the agendas of public and private organizations. As we shared in our first post, holistic wellbeing (helping people work healthier, mentally and physically) is a key pillar of how we approach designing our coworking space.

And one of the ways through which we deliver this is via positive psychological interventions (PPI), or as we call them “Positive Workplace Interventions.” These science-backed, proven, interventions allow us to stimulate healthy behaviors without relying on information, no matter how powerful that information is. After all, research shows time and time again that just educating people isn't enough to change behavior.

Our Positive Workplace Interventions come to life as bold, colorful signs that appear in the right context. This allows us to not just encourage, but nudge people into certain behaviors. Given the choice architecture we present to them (more on how we apply behavioral psychology later), it's easier to get up from your desk instead of sitting there for hours on end, getting a bit of sunlight, connecting with nature, finding a mindfulness moment and so on.

All the things that we know make every workday healthier, and happier. Without any cost, without any kind of effort.

Read the full story and see more examples and the research behind them, on our Working Well Medium blog: "Interventions in the Office: How Nudges help Drive Healthy Workplace Behaviors."

With special thanks to the team that helped deliver this: Piumi & Tien (Content), Phat (Design.) We hope the positive energy that went into this will be tangible across all our Dreamplex locations!
