NTSB on B763 Houston Hard Landing: Nose Wheel Impact and Bounces
On Aug 19th, 2023, the NTSB released their preliminary report on the United Boeing 767-300's hard landing in Houston on Jul 29th, 2023. Flight UA-702 from Newark faced issues on landing; post initial main wheels touchdown, an effort by the first officer to avert nose wheel impact led to multiple bounces, with flight data recording a nose wheel gravitational force of 1.4 g on first impact and about 1.6 g on subsequent bounces. This resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft's upper fuselage, AvHerald reports:
NCAA Issues Directive on Uninsured Aircraft Amid Currency Challenges
Effective since July 10, 2023, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has asserted its intent to ground aircraft and apply additional penalties against airlines and aviation service providers who don't adhere to the new insurance regulations, as mandated by Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2022, Part 18.14.1.1. The Director-General of NCAA, Musa Nuhu, stressed the importance of maintaining proper insurance, producing valid documentation, and timely renewals. This directive comes at a time when Nigeria faces foreign exchange scarcity and a declining naira, complicating airlines' ability to pay insurance premiums in hard currencies, CH-Aviation reports:

Air NZ Flight to Samoa Delayed Due to Security Concerns
On 17th August, Air New Zealand flight NZ990 bound for Samoa from Auckland International Airport experienced a four-hour delay after a passenger's comment was perceived as threatening. All passengers were disembarked and underwent additional security screening along with their baggage; New Zealand Aviation Security also re-screened the aircraft. While the comment was later deemed a misunderstanding, the flight, operated by a 787-9, registration ZK-NZQ, eventually departed at 12:55 instead of the intended 08:45, impacting subsequent flights, Simple Flying reports:
