Amyloidosis is a term for a group of incurable diseases commonly associated with protein misfolding, with the best-known examples being #Alzheimer’s and #Parkinson’s diseases.
RADA-16-I is one of the most widely discussed selfassembling #peptides, which form amyloid-like #fibrils. Hydrogels made of RADA-16-I can be used for various #biomedical applications, including hemostasis (bleeding prevention) and regeneration of neurons. In the field of tissue engineering, the peptide sequence can be modified with short functional motifs to improve cell adhesion and differentiation.1 AFM accompanied with other techniques was used to examine size, structure, and morphology of RADA-16-I aggregates.
On this 1x1 μm image, you can see tiny nanofibers of RADA-16-I peptides deposited on mica.
