NSW Strata Building Survey for Strata Managers - in collaboration with SCA (NSW)

This is a call out to all Strata Communities and Strata Managers in NSW.

The Office of the NSW Building Commissioner (OBC) and Strata Community Association (NSW) are undertaking an important survey to help inform consumers, the industry and regulators about how they can best serve owners and occupiers of multi-unit residential buildings in NSW in the future.

The survey will collect important details about these buildings and the issues they are dealing with. The data will be confidential and will be strictly managed by the OBC. The data will be used to develop insights that we feel will help us and Strata Managers to better serve consumers. Strict protocols will be applied to accessing the data. The OBC may allow accredited researchers to access the data for university endorsed research projects. These may be submitted to the OBC for consideration. Strata Managers will only see the survey reports summarised by question.

SCA (NSW) and the OBC urge all Strata Managers to complete the survey as promptly as possible. Please contact SCA (NSW) President Chris Duggan for more information if needed.

Many Stakeholders are playing important roles in shaping and delivering the NSW Government's construction industry reform program. SCA (NSW) is one of many. Advocacy organisations like the Owners Corporation Network along with key industry bodies are actively participating in the OBC 6-Pillar strategy to implement new reform legislation, to build industry capability, to help the regulator to become more proactively customer facing and to make those players who let the industry and consumers down more accountable. Delivering the capability and culture shift that is now happening is not an overnight transformation. The momentum is building. The community and industry can stay up to date with regular reports on the NSW Building Commissioner web site.

Chris Duggan its been a while since my last 65k walk but I trust you're well. I'm sure you'll be across this but flagging it for you was a good excuse to reconnect. Best wishes

Enacting more inspections during the construction phase by independent professionals would reduce the amount of common issues affecting new buildings, particularly on building facades as they amount to over 70% of defects, which in turn would create more confidence in the residential market..
