NSW REVIEW TAKES LEAD ON FUNDING FOR THE FUTURE
The first major publication from the independent, expert panel, appointed to review financial relations between NSW and the Commonwealth has been released.
The NSW Review of Federal Financial Relations discussion paper examines how NSW and the Commonwealth can work together to build a stronger economy, encourage state-led reform, and ultimately, deliver better value for taxpayers.
The panel has been tasked with investigating options for a fairer, more efficient and more reliable system of federal funding.
“The challenge for the expert panel is to identify options and ways we can improve the system and at the same time ensure we maintain a stable and reliable revenue base to fund essential services and infrastructure into the future.” - Dominic Perrottet
The Review will work cooperatively with the Commonwealth and other states to ensure the best outcome.
The Review, which is chaired by prominent Australian businessman David Thodey, has identified a range of issues for further consideration and these will form the basis for public consultation and submissions in coming weeks.
These consultation findings will then inform the Review’s draft recommendations, and ultimately the final report which will be published in 2020.
