NSW Priority Sectors

The program aligns with the NSW Government's priorities to tackle long-standing skills shortages and support industries undergoing critical structural changes. The identified NSW Priority Sectors for 2024-25 include:

  • Construction: Focused on infrastructure and housing development.
  • Renewables: Net zero and clean energy initiatives.
  • Care Economy: Includes aged care, disability services, and early childhood education.
  • Digital and Cyber: Critical roles across all sectors.
  • Education: Particularly teachers.
  • Agriculture and Agrifood: Supporting food production and sustainability.
  • Advanced Manufacturing: Encouraging growth and innovation in industry.

Published Skills Lists

For the 2024-25 program, NSW has released updated skills lists at the ANZSCO unit group level. There are separate lists for the Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491). All occupations within the identified unit groups that are eligible for each visa are eligible for NSW nomination. We encourage applicants to review the lists to ensure their occupation is included.

Invitation Rounds for Subclass 190 Visa

NSW nomination rounds for the Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190) will begin soon and will continue regularly until the state’s nomination allocation is filled. To increase your chances of receiving an invitation, ensure your SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is up-to-date and that you can provide valid supporting documentation for all claims made in your application.

Opening Soon: Nomination Pathways for Subclass 491 Visa

Two pathways for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491), Pathway 1 and Pathway 3, will be opening soon. Detailed eligibility criteria for both pathways are available on our website. We encourage all applicants to review these criteria carefully to ensure they meet the requirements before applying.

New Graduate Pathway for Subclass 491 Visa

We are pleased to introduce a new direct application Graduate Pathway (Pathway 3) for recent graduates from select regional NSW institutions. This pathway allows eligible graduates to apply for NSW nomination under the Skilled Work Regional Visa (subclass 491). More information on eligibility and the application process can be found on our website.

TSMIT Concession for Subclass 491 (Pathway 1)

Certain applicants under Pathway 1 may qualify for a 10% concession on the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT). This concession is available for selected occupations, making it easier for eligible applicants to meet income requirements. For more details and the list of eligible occupations, please refer to the TSMIT Concessions List on our website.

Updated Skilled Employment Criteria

We have updated the skilled employment criteria for the 2024-25 program year, simplifying the rules. NSW now follows the Home Affairs definition of skilled employment, which removes previous restrictions on what types of employment can be claimed in your EOI. For personalized advice on skilled employment claims, we recommend consulting a registered migration agent or legal professional.

Changes to EOI Submission

We have removed past restrictions on Expression of Interest (EOI) submissions in SkillSelect. Starting this program year, any valid EOI that has selected NSW will be considered during the invitation rounds. Ensure your EOI is fully complete and visible to NSW for consideration.

Application Fee

For the 2024-25 program year, the application fee has been adjusted for inflation (CPI) and is now A$315, plus GST if applying from within Australia.

More Information

For detailed information on these changes and how they may affect your application, visit our website or consult a registered migration agent or legal practitioner. We look forward to receiving your applications and supporting skilled migrants as they build their futures in NSW.
