NRG Newsletter Vol 315. – February 22nd, 2024

Last Friday was all about opening the VCT Americas Kickoff tournament with a statement and putting the rest of the league on notice as NRG VALORANT took the stage to open up a new year of competitive VCT play.?

We were determined, and we delivered! The boys cruised to a HUGE 2-0 victory against FURIA in front of an alive crowd of flag-waving NRG fans. The team of Demon1, Ethan, Marved, crashies, and Victor took to the Riot Arena stage for the first time officially as a quintet with high hopes and high standards for themselves after countless weeks of intense practices leading up to the match.?

Starting off on FURIA’s pick, Breeze, NRG opened up with a commanding 8-4 half scoreline on defense, before closing out of the game 13-10 with a solid mix of attacking strategies from coach Chet.?

On our map pick, Ascent, NRG managed to knock off seven-straight rounds on defense to close out strong, 13-8 and claim the series in a 2-0 sweep. The legend Ethan was our series MVP against FURIA, leading the team with 37 kills and 23 assists across both maps with his trusty KAY/O providing the flashes and utility needed to open up sites. Demon1 and Victor also racked up 30+ kills in the series, holding FURIA to just one player with a positive K/D.?

Next up for the team is our Group A upper bracket matchup against Cloud9, where the winner will advance to next week’s playoff bracket, and the loser will play in a decider series to keep their hopes of a slot at Masters Madrid alive. All the action starts at the same time, same place on Friday at 2 PM PT streaming live from the VCT Americas Twitch channel, so don’t miss it!

Returning to action for the second round of qualifiers in our quest for Copenhagen, NRG Rocket League proved to be on the right track with a top-8 finish in the RLCS Regional #2.?

Kickoff on NRG Mission Control: Presented by Panda Express featured a very challenging opening matchup against M80. The trio of GarrettG, Mist and Dreaz battled their way through four super close games, with every game being decided by two or fewer goals. Unfortunately, the team fell 1-3, putting them 0-1 in the Swiss Stage.?

Determined and resilient, the trio responded in a massive way, rattling off three-straight best-of-five series victories against GBuffo (3-1), Luminosity (3-0) and Incorrect (3-0) to punch our ticket into the Playoffs for the first time this season at a regional!

In our quarterfinals rematch against LG, the opponent simply had our number, defeating NRG in a 4-0 sweep. Still, the improvement from one qualifier to the next is palpable, and our hopes at major RLCS Major 1 are still intact. As of now, NRG sits in 9th place in the NA RLCS Standings, but only two points out of the 4th and final spot for our region. This FINAL qualifier means EVERYTHING, and we know we’ll have to go all out for our best finish of the season yet to make it.
