Two days ago,?National Public Radio (NPR)?posted a 6-minute audio report titled,?“Espionage case involves a giant sculpture, a fake art patron and a Chinese spying ring on U.S. soil.”

The harassment of the Chinese dissident profiled in the above report is partially a result of the assistance American private investigators (PIs) provided the Chinese spy service for a fee.

DOJ July 2022 — INDICTMENT

According to the NPR report, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) reported that the Chinese paid the PIs and others $3 million to spy on dissidents.

Cited in the NPR report were the two DOJ charging announcements in March and July of this year, respectively.

Although the NPR segment does not specifically mention the role PIs played, we know from DOJ court filings that certain identified PIs were among those that helped the Chinese spy service.

If you’re interested in more details about this case and/or the overall issue of how Chinese spy services make use of PIs to do their dirty work, please visit my?July 22, 2022,?IP PROBE BLOG?post titled,?“Private Investigators Are Routinely Contacted by Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) to Do Their Dirty Work—UPDATE”
