NPA Update - What the budget means for you and why you should support our annual Ask Your Pharmacist Week

There’s a lot talked about the idea of bringing health care closer to local communities, but how can that work in practice?

The irony is that we already have an amazing network of thousands of really local health centres on high streets and parades in every part of the country, used and trusted by millions.

Our vice-chair Olivier Picard was on Sky News this morning talking about the advice and help the local pharmacies can give people – addressing the myths so many people have with how to treat minor ailments. Just one example of the amazing service pharmacies offer millions every single day.

This week is Ask Your Pharmacist Week, but in truth it highlights the skills and expertise of the entire pharmacy team, which in so many cases off a wide range of NHS and private health services well in addition to the traditional role of dispensing medicines. Encouraging more and more people to use these wide-ranging health services and advice will be central to moving care into the community, cutting waiting times and easing pressure on the rest of the NHS. Watch the first episode of our podcast series featuring our board member Sukhi Basra here.
