NOX Converters
They won't last forever.
Even though you may have been told that NOx converters do not need to be replaced, Don't Believe it.....
Like everything else that runs at elevated temperatures eventually they will fail and replacement cost are not cheap. Datatek/Thermlcon can recharge or replace used converters for less than one third the price of a new unit.In the case of high temp converters typically they fail due to contamination and what will happen is flow rate and pressure will change affecting the readings and the ratio of O3 to sample inside the measurement cell. Since the restrictions will not change the vacuum indication it looks like all is well. One way to tell if your high temp converter is on the way out is to bypass it and if the readings go up or stay the same in the bypass mode then your converter is crapping out. In the case of MOLY converters remember they are a Consumable and will fail, it's just a question of when. Most manufacturers will tell you to change catalyst every six months but that's not true. Moly converter life is determined by the amount of conversion it actually does not by its time in service. Moly converter life is determined by PPM HOURS and the amount of catalyst used. If a converter is rated for 600 ppm/hrs than running a 1 ppm it will last approx. 600 hours. Using this calculation for a Moly converter to last 6 months running at 10 ppm Nitrogen Dioxide it should be rated a approx. 43000 ppm/hrs, not likely.
Here's the bottom line, converters need to be changed on a regular basis and we can make it easier and cheaper for you. Send in your spent converter and we will replace or recharge and turn in around within 7 days. I know what you have been told by the vendors, don't believe it!!!Request a RMA number and we will do the rest.

7 年Thanks Brian, glad you liked the post. We (Datatek/Thermlcon} produce a OEM rack mount converter that has a counter feature and well as three flow paths, bypass/moly/moly-high temp. and zero cross over pulsed temp controls. Good little unit. Your right always have a bypass.

7 年Absolutely true, we to are looking for economic recharge of NOx converters

7 年Hi Bob, i remember more than 30 years ago one NOx converter without cathalyzer (just a Pyrex tube heated over 1000 °C) : it was running well, but expensive, big size and not rugged, now not more produced
