I had to work with an organization briefly (for about 6 months) within the finance team. I had just completed 3 months when I realized there were lots of leakages in the organization because of a lack of controls and some form of high-level involvement.
?Brief details
There was this employee that took it upon herself to always compute the payments due personally to some vendors (OPEX-related expenses) and/or determine the exact payment to be made at her specific time. While I appreciated the efficiency with which she was interested in satisfying the vendors, I was a bit concerned about why she claims to always use her funds to make payments to them on behalf of the Company without getting some form of benefits in return from the Company loaned funds (chuckles).

?There was weekly pilferage of about N500k from unused/non-existence tickets which gets approved by her superior and have been in place for about 10 months based on my short investigation. To crown it all, she doesn’t like to take her annual leave as she is so important to the Company and loves to work all year round.
Controls are an important part of our working environment; however, process documentation, process review, and process audit seem to help in efficiently identifying some of the lags that exist in the organization using its various tools, guidelines, and techniques.
What are your thoughts on this?
