Now You See Me. Now You Don't. Sticky Toffee Navigation - 009

Howdy marketeers and digital lovers, welcome to?issue?009?of?Swipe & Deploy.

Hope you've had a great week.

Now enough of the pleasantries, let's get straight to the good stuff.

??????????????

Now You See Me. Now You Don't. Sticky Toffee Navigation

An under appreciated website feature and one that is becoming far more common on websites is a sticky or fixed navigation.

This is the navigation or header area of the website that remains in position as you scroll down the page, However what i'm sharing today is this feature but a certain improved one, and here's why.

Fixed/Sticky Headers are Great but take up too much screen space

Mobile devices especially when you apply a fixed/sticky header you limit the space for your content. This applies to desktop and tablet too. Throw that into the ring with popups and chat widgets fighting for your attention, the user struggles to see your content.

The hybrid solution?

A hide and reveal sticky navigation. Say what?

Basically shown below on the Wild Deodorant website, as the user scrolls the navigation does not follow you or remain visible. It's only when the user scrolls up (even slightly) that the navigation appears back in view.

This approach is the best of both worlds, as it takes up less screen space as you digest content, yet appears right when you need it for better usability.

What's To Swipe & Deploy?

If you haven't got a sticky navigation or header area on your website, then this is surely a solution to ask your agency to implement. If you have and it's always visible, then start a conversation about changing it to a hide and reveal and potentially showing the Wild website as a demo. This will free up more real estate on your website for your awesome content.

** By the way I recently bought one of their deodorants. I was personally sceptical, as the price is high compared to the throw away plastic roll ons I would usually buy. However, the smell is great and it lasts all day. You feel better doing your bit for the environment too and the product is plastic free, so nothing goes into landfill.

That's a wrap for Swipe & Deploy 009. Join me next Friday where I will share another insight or inspiration piece from around the web.?

Until next week - have a great weekend.?

PS. There's no reason this article is called Sticky Toffee, it's just I like toffee and it's sticky.
