Now What: Royal Mail talks over pay on brink of collapse.
So privatisation has now come to this. Some of us saw this coming at the time of privatisation as we knew that is was not a good idea and unfeasible. Obviously some, including friends of Ministers back in the noughties, have made their money.
But where does this leave the Universal service remit? In tatters one would suggest. The only option is re-nationalisation. However, with this current Government and who they put in charge of it, it is doubtful whether they would run it successfully or even ethically and with a Corporate Social responsibility remit. This means meaningful negotiations on pay, pensions, sick pay etc... and moreover, it would need millions in finance to implement any negotiated chanes to make the service prosperous once more.
