Is now the time?
My colleague and I attended a sales training put on by Dr. Bruce Lund. I've attended/tried plenty of sales training and materials. There are countless individuals moving into the sales coaching space and I think I have a reason why. Everyone is desperate for that one magic bullet that will make all their dreams come true. Having someone speak to you and say "they have the secret to increase sales" is definitely enticing. It makes you think that you won't have to work and you'll have the secret and no one else will.
To be clear and fair, Dr Lund was not one of the charlatan's that I mentioned earlier. He seemed honest, trust worthy, and a hard worker. The greatest thing I received from the training today though was what provides the greatest success/chance to achieve the goals I'd like to achieve, and that is accountability. The greatest human beings are accountable to themselves. They have a clearly defined set of goals, and they push and push until their goals are met.
The second set of people (the group I fall into) aren't quite self-motivated. I have a too easy time being distracted by certain shiny objects (iphone and youtube) and by the end of my day, the goal is left uncompleted. "I was too busy to complete it today" "I'll get to it tomorrow" However, what's even worse than this, having to tell another human being that the reason I didn't complete the work was because I was on youtube all day. How humiliating!
ACCOUNTABILITY. If you are accountable to another person, even a stranger, it will greatly propel you to complete your goals and keep you on track. Share and track your new years resolutions with friends and coworkers and have accountability appointments with your partner or team so they can keep you honest on your goals.
Please share your goals in the comments below. I'd be excited to hear what goals you have for 2019.
Sincerely,
Dwight Bentz
