Now is not the time to do nothing!

Now is not the time to do nothing!

I reflect back on my timeline of personal development and growth, and find it interesting to re-visit the inflection points of making major decisions.

Sometimes the decisions were easy to make, because in many ways the skids were greased. (e.g. the nuclear disaster of Three Mile Island in 1979 suggested I find more meaningful work)

Other times, a bit more difficult, like leaving a well-established high-tech computer company to join a five-person startup in Silicon Valley.

The same applies to some of my life-long learning decisions. My engineering undergraduate degree in 1975 was satisfying and enabled a good growth projectory for success. It only took 32 more years for me to realize that I needed to sharpen my educational tools and head back to school for a non-technical Master’s degree.? ?I was 63 years young when I finished by Ph.D.

Why do I share my personal story? In a way, I am lamenting my delay in pursuing higher education and at the same time celebrating that I eventually found a path that is most rewarding.?

Making choices for your personal advancement is the least selfish thing you can do. When you challenge your future, you are making a bet to differentiate your old, well established self with newly acquired knowledge and relationships.? Doors will open and opportunities will land within your reach.

I reiterate, “Now is not the time to do nothing!”? Advance confidently in the direction of your dreams and never wake up.
