If you want to be a great leader, start by being a great student first.
Leaders who want to leave a legacy study examples of what greatness looks like.
If you're a manager chances are you've only observed poor examples before.
Some of the best lessons of leadership are what not to do...
But that leaves you an opportunity.
Similar to how people say they won't repeat their parent's mistakes.
This is your moment.
It takes more effort to change your ways than it does to continue doing what you know.
Don't be lazy.
If you're constantly challenging yourself to learn and get better, your leadership will benefit from it.
Great managers are always picking up tips from other successful managers.
Years of experience don't play a huge role.
There are plenty of great young managers as well as some terrible older managers.
The key is: how hungry you are to learn?
If your mentality is to coast until you get promoted or retire, your team suffers.
But when the focus is on constant progress, you lead by example.
Effective managers ask great questions.

From those questions the answers provide ideas.
If you truly care about developing your people as a manager you'll always try new things.
Because that's what you expect of them.
It is classic show and tell.
I tell people leadership was a hobby before it became my job.
I am the most effective as a manager when I am absorbing leadership material continually.
If you want to develop leaders on your team it starts with you.
Prioritizing your own growth is a catalyst for team growth.
Who knows?
You may even learn something new from those you lead.
In my current role helping managers become leaders through soft skills I look to people like Ali Merchant , Peter Karius & Teddy Mitrosilis because they are doing it better than me.
You never arrive as a leader.
