Now, Real Work Begins
Now what? We have heard all the insults, lies and false claims. There will be decent and cries of all sorts of things from those who were defeated. There will be counterclaims and efforts to unite a divided nation. The strife and dissension will not end just because the election is over. Now the hard work begins!
There will also be disagreement over the priorities of the day as people line up for roles and a new team is formed to do “the people’s work.” Where do we start? What will it take? Is it even possible to heal a nation that has become so divided by various causes and positions?
Everyone will have suggestions and opinions on the way to go. Why not me? Here is my list of the top few things, I believe, we must do as a nation to survive this transition:
#1. “If my people, who are called by my name,?will humble?themselves and pray and seek my face?and turn?from their wicked ways, then I will hear?from heaven, and I will forgive?their sin and will heal?their land.” We must take stock of who we are and what all we have been through as a nation, humble ourselves from all the empty claims and false narrative, on both sides, and seek God.
#2. We must turn back to our roots as a nation and become a nation under God once again. The idea of our freedom coming from God at the time of creation is central to the American experience. Rooted in Christian history, it is reflected in important developments in every century of American history. In the 1700s, Jefferson based American liberties on the concept. In the 1800s, Lincoln drew upon the concept in his Gettysburg Address. In the 1900s, Rev. King appealed to it as the underpinnings for justice in the Civil Rights movement. The inclusion of the phrase?under God?in our Pledge of Allegiance was meant to reaffirm America’s heritage as a predominately Judeo-Christian nation in the face of looming global threats (especially ones that were derived from atheistic, materialist worldviews such as communism).
#3. We must find ways to love one another, heal wounds, and start to really listen to one another. Above all, keep fervent in our love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins and disagreements. We have forgotten how to see other perspectives and to understand where people come from in their own pain and suffering.

?#4. We must hold our leaders accountable to the will and deserves of all the people, not just a few. This is not about ignoring needs and positions; it is all about considering the needs of everyone above the needs of just a few. Much has been promised in this election. It is up to us to hold the feat of our leaders to the fire of their words. We must develop a better system of checks and balances for the actions of our leaders.
#5. We must find the ways and means to restructure our government to become more efficient, stronger as a country, become respected and admired around the world, and for enforcement or restructuring of all righteous laws. Our legal system must not be used for wrong reasons. People must respect and adhere to the laws, especially the sovereignty of our nation. Those in positions of power and influence should not be allowed to use their positions for personal gain. We must find ways to restore faith in institutions that traditionally have been trusted by the people in our democratic republic. We must accept the mandate of the people in our election and conduct a just and peaceful transfer of power to new leadership.
#6. The best possible people should be selected as leaders in all key positions to help restore our greatness as a country and to make the necessary decisions based upon TRUTH. There is, of course, only OneTRUTH. These individuals must have the knowledge, experience, and wisdom to ask the right questions and come to the best decisions for our nation.
In all of these we must learn from the past but put it behind us and move forward with the goals of both restoring our democracy and establishing the best possible country in the world. There will continue to be disagreements, conflicts, and people who care only for their own interests and personal gain, but we can and must rise above them to claim the ultimate victory of a united country with a healthy economy, protected borders, peace in the world, justice for all, energy independence, a healthy and safe environment, and the best possible health care system.
Now, the real work of restoring our nation begins. Are you ready to do your part?
