Now Is a Great Time to Rethink Retention and Recruiting
How do you attract drivers so they come to you?
The answer involves the same reasons people go back to restaurants they like what they offer, how they are treated and there are no threats that turn them away such as bad food or bad service.
What does your company offer to attract and keep drivers? Advertising, marketing, word of mouth or something really special that entices the driver to want to work for your company?
One of the major problems to getting and keeping drivers is that the
C-Suite, especially the CEO, is focusing attention in the wrong areas, like a driver not keeping his eye on the road.
Sign-on bonuses, loyalty points and prize programs are nice to have but if the fundamentals of the company operations and culture are not strong enough to keep drivers, the retention problems will continue
The real issue then is the lack of commitment by the C-Suite to do what is necessary to get and keep drivers, rather than what is expedient just to run a company.
At most companies, the people responsible for retention and recruiting are generally at the lower levels of the organizational chart. Instead, they should be considered the CEOs of Retention and Recruiting and should be close to the C-Suite in terms of importance to the company.
