Today's newsletter is a single subject one to provide an opportunity for employers to share their local internship opportunities with high school and college students in the region. Let's work together to keep our students local.

Share Your Internships with Local High School/College Students

One goal that is shared broadly across the Greater Mankato Area is to retain as many of our high school and college students as possible. As one initiative related to that goal, I'm excited to share that we are beginning to collect recurring internships into an Internship Exploration Document/Directory. This concept was spurred from a conversation with Northwestern Mutual and Mankato Area Public Schools regarding how we can let our high schoolers know about the great internship opportunities that are available locally, especially if they go to college outside of the region. As conversation continued, we realized that this will also be a great resource to provide to our colleges for students who are actively looking for an internship.

This document will organize internships into the Fields, Clusters, & Pathways model that students are familiar with through their career exploration experiences in high school. We are asking employers to share up to two internships in each of the 6 career fields (so an employer could, for example, have two internships in the Business, Management, & Administration Career Field & two internships in the Engineering, Manufacturing, & Technology career field). This is not intended to replace Handshake or other posting sites for immediate opportunities, so we are only looking for this document to include internships that are either on a set, regular schedule or are otherwise almost always available.

Because the goal of this document is to ensure that students stay in the Greater Mankato area, we request that internships are either in-person or involve substantial time in the region.

Greater Mankato Growth will have our own intern starting on June 3 whose role will involve collecting the responses and putting them in the document, so we are requesting that employers add their internships by that date if possible.?

In the first iteration of the document, it will be available to students via PDF and print and will be structured like a directory (as seen below). We hope to design a one-two page document highlighting some interesting internships (which will be chosen by students) and have an opportunity for employers to add a longer form response if they want to be considered for that.
