November Newsletter

November Newsletter

Hello again! Welcome back to our November Newsletter, where we’ll be discussing what we’ve been working on in the past months, and all things age inclusion.

This month’s newsletter was written by our Digital Marketing Ambassador, Cerys Davies. It’s been a very exciting year for us at ProAge, we hope this newsletter gives you a look into the great progress we’ve been making.?

Upcoming Workshop

On November 23rd, we will be hosting a workshop at the HSBC offices on Canary Wharf in London to discuss the findings from the survey we have been conducting with Brave Starts . We have collected input from over 200 HR and DEI professionals to understand where the topic of age inclusion fits on their agenda and what they are doing to make the workplace more age friendly. The findings reveal some interesting disconnects as well as opportunities for the future. Our workshop at HSBC represents the first of five we will be hosting around the country to discuss the findings with employers so that we can map the way forward.?

ProAge is a Business for Health Member

Secondly, we are delighted to announce that ProAge has recently become a Business for Health cic member!?

Business for Health has done some great work on tackling workplace health issues, employee retention and finding ways to help people live longer, healthier lives. A particularly great resource from B4H is the Business Framework for Health. Launched in 2021, the Framework examines the parallels between business contribution and health, and shows us the positive effects of business-led health intervention. We are committed to the fair treatment of older workers in the workplace, and are very excited to have joined Business for Health in progressing our mission.

ProAge is Growing!

We’d like to warmly welcome our newest additions to the team, Beverley Nielsen and John Day .?

John has joined as our Head of Membership Services. John is committed to promoting age diversity, equality and inclusion and realising opportunities for all, not defined or limited by a person's date of birth. His recent career background is in the charity sector in business development and fundraising.??

Also on board with us as a Trustee, is Beverley Nielsen. Beverley is Associate Professor at Birmingham City University and a district Councillor on Malvern Hills District Council. With her previous executive positions in industry and work with the CBI, Beverley brings a wide range of experience and thinking to our work.

Training Updates

ProAge recently collaborated with gender equality author and specialist Virginia Méndez Mesón to create our latest training: ‘Exploring Intersectionality: How Ageism and Sexism Interact’. This 90 minute workshop is suitable for up to 30 team members and works to educate on the benefits of a diverse workforce, unpack ageist and sexist stereotypes, and address ways that we can foster a more collaborative work environment.?

The findings of Centre for Ageing Better ‘The State of Ageing 2022’ report suggests that distribution of male employment across industry sectors is far greater than that of women, with over 50% of women being employed in public administration, education and health. It is very important to address the implications of workplace sexism and how we can tackle both ageism and sexism simultaneously when seeking to create a more productive workforce.

We are also thrilled to announce that our Age and Anti-Ageism training is officially CPD (UK) Approved Courses - ISO Management Systems certified. This training provides a great opportunity for up to 30 team members to define ageism, examine how it affects both team and individual and map out a plan of action to cultivate a more age-inclusive workplace.

For more information about how to attend these workshops, or if you would like to have a discussion about the topics addressed, please get in contact at [email protected].?

In October our CEO collaborated with Tatiana Rowson PhD, SFHEA, CMBE for an eyeopening article about the menopause. The piece ‘Menopause is the end of reproductive health and not productive life’ gained 450 impressions.?
