Feature Highlight: Launch of the Maputo Protocol Scorecard, 2024

The launch of the National Maputo Protocol Scorecard, organized by Forum for African Women Educationalists FAWE Nigeria, served as a platform for meaningful discussions on the implementation of the protocol and its objectives. Bringing together key stakeholders, the event highlighted the significant milestone in the ongoing commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of women, it reinforces the collective vision of creating a society where gender equity and justice prevail and empower girls across Nigeria. The evaluation of the scorecard revealed encouraging progress in protecting women’s and girls’ rights while shining a light on areas requiring urgent action. This inspires renewed dedication to creating a future where the rights and potential of women and girls are fully realized.




Welcome to ACOSA: A United Front for Child Online Safety?

At the Africa Child Online Safety Summit 2024 in Addis Ababa, organized by the Watoto Watch Network supported by Meta, this Network of Child Safeguarding Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) dedicated to Child Online Protection in Africa called ACOSA was launched with member representation from Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania, South Africa, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Namibia. This network? emphasized its mission to unite governments, organizations, and communities across Africa to protect children online through collaboration, advocacy, education, and innovation. ACSAI is excited to be part of this network.


Advancing the Fight Against Online Child Sexual Abuse: ACSAI Strenghtens Partnership with NAPTIP

This? November, ACSAI took a significant step in the fight against online child exploitation by strengthening its existing partnership with NAPTIP during a? courtesy visit to Newly appointed Director General Binta Adamu Bello, OON, in Abuja. Led by Program Director Juliet Ohahuru-Obiora, the discussion centered on improving on existing efforts to tackle Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OCSEA) through collaboration, awareness campaigns, and enhanced protective measures. Director General Binta Adamu Bello highlighted her commitment to the welfare of women and children, reaffirming NAPTIP’s commitment to working closely with ACSAI.




The COSPRA Summit 2024: Child Online Safety, Protection and Reporting of Abuse in Nigeria.

This event championed by the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation, focuses on highlighting the need to strengthen efforts on child online protection in Nigeria. . The event? brought together stakeholders to address online child abuse and the shared responsibility of safeguarding children’s digital experiences. During the 2nd panel discussion, Juliet Ohahuru-Obiora, ACSAI's Program Director, stressed the importance of including children and young people's voices in creating solutions that empower and protect them online. An engaging discussion with young participants highlighted their desire for internet access as a learning tool, despite parental restrictions aimed at protection. Juliet called for a balanced approach, urging parents to collaborate with their children and adopt safety measures like parental controls and active guidance. This summit emphasized? the necessity of fostering trust and understanding between generations, ensuring that online safety efforts empower children while preserving their digital freedoms.




Kids are terrific - happy, innocent, and free. They can remind us of what is best about ourselves. When they are sexually abused, that happiness is dimmed, sometimes for life.
