Opinion: Black philanthropy is helping reduce racial inequities

One of the most powerful aspects of Black philanthropy is its focus on education — not just academic, but an education of self. Black people have long been part of systems that marginalize them, and Black philanthropy offers a path to reclaim identity and address generational trauma that is rooted in slavery. Americans believe next-gen giving will be done locally, survey finds

According to an online survey conducted by The Harris Poll of more than 2,000 U.S. adults on behalf of Vanguard Charitable, 62 percent of Americans believe that the majority of future?giving will be done locally. The survey also found that 59 percent of Americans agree that, in the future, younger generations (Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z and Gen Alpha) will be more likely than older generations (Boomers, Silent Generation) to make monetary donations to nonprofit organizations that are attempting to solve large societal and environmental issues.

We are proud to support organizations across this country that are standing up to advance democratic norms and protect vulnerable communities. We are steadfast in our defense of those principles.

The moment calls for both reflection and humility, as we must all seek to understand how we arrived here and how we move forward. This is a time for deep listening, strategic action, and building community. We all have some soul — and strategy — searching to do.
