November Health Challenge: Why Meditation?

Hey friends! The November Challenge is officially over today. November sure went by fast, didn’t it?
I want to share 2 reasons I chose “meditating for 10 minutes each day” as my #novemberhealthchallenge.
Firstly, I wanted to manage stress. The end of the year always bring a little extra pressure to complete work projects, travel, shop, plan get-togethers - you name it, there’s a lot to do! Then add on interacting with people who are also stressed out because it is the end of the year. Meditation helps me manage through all of it with more resilience, so when problems arise, I focus on solutions vs. the negative emotions associated with said problems.
Second, mindfulness has been an anchor for me during my health journey. Guided meditation has helped me notice patterns of thinking that are not healthy for me. One is example is “all or nothing” thinking. Noticing is the first step, so you can catch yourself in these thought patterns and make changes to get a better outcome.
Here’s how it plays out for me: Let’s say I have a donut for breakfast. Old pattern of thinking: “You messed up. What’s the point of staying on track for the rest of the day when you already messed up?” Now with guided meditation I am more likely to say: “Ok, you had a donut, and you enjoyed it! What is the next best health choice you can make for yourself?” Do I always do this? No! But I’m bouncing back to healthy habits waayyy more quickly than I did in the past.
So what am I proposing for the December 2019 Health Challenge? I’ll announce it tomorrow on Instagram and Facebook and on Monday here on LinkedIn. I hope you’ll join me!
May your final day in November be amazing!!!
