It’s the Weekend of Ghosts & Goblins & More . . . Let’s See What November Has in Store!
October 30th & 31st: Halloween in New Canaan is being scaled back this year due to Covid however, there are still fun activities to enjoy. Stroll the outdoor illuminated Pumpkin Fest October 30th and October 31st from 5 - 9. A festive holiday display at the Mirror House featuring Halloween Jack-o-Lanterns carved by the community! Take a stroll on Elm and Main to enjoy the festive scarecrows adorning the lamp posts also created by the community.
October 31st: Planet New Canaan’s new Food Scrap Program at the New Canaan Transfer Station initiative is getting underway. Food scrap buckets will be on sale at the Farmers' Market, this Saturday, Oct. 31st from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Buckets are $25 each and a portion of the proceeds goes to New Canaan Food Pantry. Cash or check only. Countertop compost pails are still for sell at Weed & Duryea at 10% off until end of October but these buckets are for placing your food scraps in until your trip to the Transfer Station.
October 31st: Farmer’s Market: Just 4 Saturdays left! Come celebrate the end of the season! Kids can dress up as their favorite hero from the past or present. Goodies will be given. Prizes will be awarded! Also, collecting non-perishables for the local food bank.
October 31st 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Shred Day at the Transfer Station. Free and open to all New Canaan residents. Enter from 394 Main Street for the shredding event. Check out Planet New Canaan to learn more.
November 1st: Day Light Savings. It is time to turn your clocks back, replace your smoke & carbon monoxide detector batteries & clean your gutters!
New to town or have a new neighbor? Samantha Loomis, representative for New Neighbors, will be hosting two informational coffees this month where she will answer questions as well as offer welcome gifts from local vendors. Curious about New Canaan Public School Schedules? New Canaan public schools have resumed full in person learning. The administration is doing an amazing job keeping families informed, students educated and continuing to keep safety a priority. The Carriage Barn’s Capturing New Canaan Exhibit is available for viewing until November 4th. It is a fun exhibit of the Sculpture Trail interpreted by various local artists as well as students from NCHS’s Photography class.
New Canaan Beautification League It’s a great time to join since all programs are on zoom, are incredibly informative and will have you dreaming of improving your yard and gardens. This month’s program, “Creating Decorative Winter Porch Pots” features the very talented Jen from Copia on Wednesday, November 4th from 9:30 - 11:30. Jennifer Cipriano of Copia Home and Garden in South Salem, NY will give us ideas for creating decorative outside planters that will take us through Thanksgiving, Christmas and beyond. The Glass House is spectacular in the fall. The grounds are open as an outdoor-only experience in a limited capacity on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday between the hours of 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Admission is $20 per person. Grounds passes are currently available through November 15, 2020. The Glass House will close for the winter on November 16, 2020. Purchase tickets here.
Meals on Wheels PSA: Are you looking for a meaningful way to help your neighbors? Contact me to learn more about delivering Meals on Wheels. Meals are prepared Monday - Friday at Waveny Care Center and delivered by a team of volunteers. Coolers are left outside of client’s homes for contactless delivery. We still offer a warm smile and a wave as we deliver though! If you have never delivered before and would like to volunteer, please call me and I will happily take you on the route and teach you the ropes. Any questions, please reach out! Sign up here!

Market Update: the New Canaan Real Estate Market continues to see low inventory and high demand. As of today inventory is down almost 25% from last year and pending sales are up 95%. The median price has also increased 12% to $1,439,000 from $1,285,000 year over year.
