I nerded it up for the weekend!

Thought Bubble

Sat here on the train from York to Edinburgh , writing my newsletter on a new laptop. Cringe.

I spent a great weekend at Thought Bubble, THE Yorkshire Comic Art Festival. This is now the 4th year I’ve gone (and 1st solo) and it really is the best weekend. As I always point out to anyone who will listen, what makes TB different is that it is focused solely on the people who make comics, and not video games, movies, TV shows, etc. And the it’s not just superheros comics. Some of the best indie, small press, alternative, queer, and generally sound folk turn up to show of their work. Comics, zines, graphic novels, posters, prints, stickers, keyrings, commissions, and a whole lot more are there for you to browse and buy.

A remarque by Fernando Blanco

This year I decided to go on my own as Michelle would be minding Baby Boy Bran for the weekend. There were a tonne of writers and artists that I really like there and it was great to chat to them, get them to sign my (lots) of comics, and even get a few remarques and drawings done. I’ve always found everyone at TB to be so kind and accommodating to this spicy ND, which really does make the weekend so much better.

I can honestly say that TB is the most inclusive even I’ve ever been to. And it has never felt tokenistic or inclusive for the sake of inclusivity. It’s just a load of cool kids, making cool things, for cool people.

Me and one of my favourite writers, James Tynion IV

What I've been working on

I was delighted to hear that the Text About It video I made for spunout earlier in the year was going to be used for a national cinema campaign. This meant I had to adjust for that format and make an edit or two. So, if you see it in Irish cinemas over the next while, try grab a sneaky photo for me!

Also out in the physical world is a short video for The Giggler Treatment. It’s showing on screens in Connelly Station and Dundrum/Liffey Valley SC from 4th-17th Nov. I had a lot of fun animating Rover last year and glad to make more this year too.

I’m also still working on the video series for DRCC, which has expanded from 3 to 4. I’m proud that there is now a 4th video, as hopefully it means the client is happy with my animations! ??

The few months are already filled up so going to start 2025 off strong! Let’s go!

What I've seen/heard

?? 30 Rock

?? Taskmaster S18 (This season just didn’t do it for me)

???? Sweeney Todd

?? Small Things Like These

What I've read

??? Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson

?? The Sacrificers by Rick Remender and Max Fiumara

?? Savage Town by Declan Shalvey and Philip Barrett

???? The Last Devil to Die by Richard Osman

What’s Bran up to?

He was a spooky spider for Hallowe'en
