5.4 million people in Haiti are now experiencing acute hunger, according to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification?(IPC) analysis. This means a full half of the country is struggling to find enough food each day?— a record-high level of hunger in a country that has faced blow after?blow.

The situation in Haiti is critical, with over 200,000 displaced people facing severe humanitarian challenges in Port-au-Prince and its surroundings. The need for increased aid and intervention is urgent to address both the displacement crisis and the worsening food insecurity in?Haiti.

2 million Haitians face emergency levels of hunger?(IPC Phase 4) with severe food shortages, malnutrition and heightened disease risks. At least 6,000 displaced individuals in Port-au-Prince are in catastrophic hunger?(IPC Phase 5)?— a stage defined by starvation, death and extreme malnutrition. This marks the worst hunger emergency in the Western?Hemisphere.

Widespread violence and political instability make it unsafe for many people to work or grow food. Natural disasters like droughts and storms continue to destroy crops and homes, while crippling poverty has made food unaffordable for many?families.

FMSC is working closely with in-country partners, who risk their own safety every day to ensure food is delivered across the country, despite the increasing?challenges.?
