November 2024 Round-up
Welcome to this month’s newsletter from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.
This month we have been busy working on lobbying MPs and government to help charities get access to additional income, supporting charities with Giving Tuesday which takes place next week, sharing a new collection of AI for Fundraising resources, oh and we launched the 2025 National Fundraising Awards – to name just a few things! Read on for all the details...
Follow the Yellow Brick Road
The Remember A Charity team is taking inspiration from the release of the Wicked film, with a guest blog from Chris Millward, Head of Legacies at Princess Alice Hospice, which takes us along the yellow brick road for a journey to legacy success with?this Wizard of Oz themed advice piece.
Tapping her heels together a la Dorothy, is broadcaster and former Strictly star Angela Rippon, who carried out a broadcast day for Remember A Charity, helping to champion legacy giving and inspire more people with the power of gifts in Wills.
And the Remember A Charity team recently launched the new Wealth Adviser Committee, to help those working with high net worth individuals achieve their philanthropic goals.?
Our policy and advocacy work
The Chartered Institute’s policy team is continuing to work on the updated guidance on face-to-face fundraising in the wake of the Fundraising Regulator’s market inquiry. We have been working closely with our Public Fundraising Advisory Panel and agency members to develop and inform this work, which is due for completion and publication in January.
After engaging with members to inform our answers, we submitted our response to the Fundraising Regulator’s final Fundraising Code consultation in November and our summary of responses will be available soon.
We have written to the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology Peter Kyle, urging him to re-instate Clause 115 into the re-introduced Data Use and Access Bill. Clause 115 was included in the previous version of the Bill (in the last administration) which would have extended the soft opt-in for email marketing to charities, in its current form the soft opt-in clause is only valid for commercial organisations. Find out more and how you can lobby your MP.
Giving Tuesday is taking place next week, on Tuesday 3 December, and we have a series of case studies ready for media to highlight the value of supporting charities. We are celebrating the efforts of supporters, donors and volunteers who have made a huge difference to causes to close to their hearts, with the theme Give Your Way.
Fundraisers’ salaries – what’s the latest?
If you are considering a change of roles next year, you might want to find out how salaries and employee benefits compare. We have a webinar for our members in January with CharityJob, exploring insights into fundraising salaries and benefits from across the sector. If you’re working to recruit and retain fundraising talent – this information will prove helpful to you. If you’d like to get access to this webinar, as well as many more in our library of on-demand content and resources, find out about joining the Chartered Institute as a member.

AI for Fundraisers – resources to help you
Earlier in the month we launched a AI for Fundraisers Collection. This is a set of resources, videos and information about how you could be using AI to support your fundraising, available just for members of the Chartered Institute. The Collection includes videos from charities already using AI, as well as guidance on how to use it for supporter experience, online donations, whether Trust Fundraisers should be using AI to write funding applications, and more.
Supporting and celebrating Trustees
Earlier this month was Trustee’s Week and charity Trustees have an important role to play bringing the different parts of an organisation together under a shared approach. We shared our Trustees and Fundraising Handbook which is a fantastic resource for new Trustees as well as those who are more experienced.
Plus, our new Chair of the Board of Trustees, @Harpreet Kondell, has been featured on 2 Ps on a Pod – a podcast about fundraising. Find out about Harpreet’s 30 years of fundraising and her goals for the Chartered Institute.
Celebrate your achievements at the National Fundraising Awards 2025
One of my personal highlights from this year was the return of the National Fundraising Awards – where we celebrated the amazing achievements of fundraisers from across the UK. I was blown away by the outstanding quality of entrants, everyone who was shortlisted, and?our brilliant 2024 winners.?And we’re back again for 2025, with nominations now open!?
If you haven’t already seen it, read my three reasons why you should submit a nomination, and don’t forget you only have until 23.59 on Wednesday 22 January 2025 to submit a nomination – don’t leave it until the last minute!
Be part of an ‘amazing experience’
Planning for Fundraising Convention 2025 is well underway and we are ready to invite fundraisers to join us as event volunteers. Volunteering at Fundraising Convention is an exciting way to access the largest fundraising convention in Europe and we always get great feedback about what an amazing experience it was from those who have volunteered previously. Visit our website for more details.
Next month we’ll be sharing a look back at all the things that we have been doing this year with our members, volunteers, partners and the fundraising sector. Keep an eye out for it!
Best wishes,
Katie

3 个月I know that you should always think out of the box and I love the analogy and comparison of following the yellow brick road. All my marketing professors used to laugh at my marketing because they had never seen any of their students mix and combine two seemingly unrelated things to make a marketing case and they all told me that they loved it. Yellow brick road, I get it. And I can paint a big canvas of things we did this year or make a video about it. And all of these things apply to fund raising as well.
