FEATURED EVENT
NationSwell x MCF Book Club – King: A Life by Jonathan Eig
November 19th | 6pm - 8:30pm | The Altman Building, New York City
NationSwell and Marguerite Casey Foundation (MCF) are presenting the fourth event in our book club series: “King: A Life” — the first significant account in decades of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — featuring Pulitzer-winning biographer Jonathan Eig in conversation with Dr. Carmen Rojas, PhD (she/her) , President & CEO of Marguerite Casey Foundation, and Dr. Darrick Hamilton , Professor of Economics and Urban Policy at the New School.
Together, we will reflect on how King’s critique of racism, economic exploitation, and militarism continues to inform contemporary movements for freedom and explore how King’s understanding of justice can inspire a better vision for how we build economic and social policy today.

The Virtuous Cycle of Revitalization and Small Business Growth
Small businesses are a critical component of a thriving community, providing several essential benefits that increase livability and vitality — especially in historically divested neighborhoods. Supporting small business stamina and growth can spark a virtuous cycle of revitalization, bringing in resources a district needs to incentivize people to stay and creating an environment ripe for small business longevity.
Through their Executive Fellowship Program, FUSE is working in cities across the U.S., like Jackson and Los Angeles, to jump-start the momentum for revitalization.
