November 2024

This month, we have several exciting updates. We have news about our upcoming Board of Trustees Meeting, a conference and an opportunity for you to help us plan for climate change.

But first, a reminder: clocks fall back on Sunday as Daylight Saving Time ends. Less daylight can create more dangerous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. Check out the safety tips from our Street Smart NJ pedestrian safety campaign to learn how you can help make our roads safer.

We hope you can join us in-person or virtually for our Board Meeting this month . Stephanie Hoopes, from United Way of Northern New Jersey, is our featured speaker who will discuss the ALICE population and its impact on our region. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed and encompasses people who earn just above the federal poverty level but less than what it costs to make ends meet. This presentation is part of an ongoing series to help inform our Long Range Transportation Plan update, which is underway.

Later this month we'll be at the NJ League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City promoting a variety of our programs open to municipalities . If you're planning to attend the conference, be sure to stop by Booth 2530! We'd love to chat about our municipal programs and get your ideas for our Long Range Transportation Plan!

The image at the top of this email was taken in Belleville earlier this week, where a temporary bicycle lane has been set up on a portion of Division Street. Temporary demonstration projects like this allow communities to test out potential improvement before implementing them. Belleville is creating a bicycle corridor plan for Division Street through our Complete Streets Technical Assistance Program .

Four other communities are developing corridor plans through the program, which will identify potential safety improvements. Among them is Verona , which also used materials from our Demonstration Library to test potential improvements. If you're in the area, check it out!

Share Your Thoughts on Climate Change

A graphic asking people to take the Climate Action Planning community survey.

The NJTPA, in partnership with agencies in New York City, is developing a Climate Action Plan for our bi-state region, which will include strategies for reducing climate pollution and ensuring investments maximize benefits, especially for disadvantaged communities.

Take the Community Survey by November 15 to share your perspectives on climate impacts and actions. Your input will help shape the plan and its recommendations. It should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete.

This planning effort is being funded with a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. To learn more visit bit.ly/NYNJClimatePlan
