As a continuation of the organization’s first symposium this year, IFDC hosted a second symposium, “Future Proofing: Unified Action for Soil Health and Food Security,” on November 4 at KIT Institute in Amsterdam.
The event brought together global experts, policymakers, researchers, leaders, and more to connect, discuss, and strategize on enhancing soil health and global food security. From innovative approaches to shared solutions, each panel and interactive working group has enriched the conversation for a sustainable future.
November Project Feature: AfricaFertilizer
AfricaFertilizer?is an IFDC initiative that seeks to provide clear, relevant, and opportune data and market analysis on fertilizers in sub-Saharan Africa. Its aim is to support the implementation of continental, regional, and national agricultural policies; support the growth and development of competitive markets; and stimulate actionable insights within the African fertilizer sector.

IFDC celebrated a remarkable milestone on October?28 by hosting this year’s final Open Door event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to mark 50 years of globally advancing agricultural transformation. Partners and key players from donor organizations gathered to honor IFDC’s legacy in Ethiopia and the organization's vision for a more sustainable future worldwide.

Focus on: the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan
In a recent CNBC Africa segment, IFDC President and CEO Henk van Duijn discussed the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Action Plan, a comprehensive initiative to boost soil health, increase fertilizer use, and promote sustainable agriculture across Africa. Van Duijn outlined IFDC’s role in supporting African countries to translate this ambitious action plan into national agricultural investment plans.
Building Resilience through Community Action in Uganda
Severe erosion, mudslides, and declining soil fertility have threatened livelihoods in Western Uganda, but through Integrated Farm Planning meetings, the community has developed a plan to rehabilitate its local watershed. Over 1,700 households now work together to construct soil and water conservation structures to slow rainwater runoff and enhance income.
MAPA and Embrapa Sign Partnership with IFDC to Strengthen Fertilizer Innovation
From October 28 to 30, representatives from Embrapa and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) in Brazil visited the United States on a mission aimed at developing fertilizer technologies. The highlight of the technical visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with IFDC in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to innovate and enhance sustainability in Brazil's agriculture sector.
Strengthening the Implementation of Irish Potato Regulations in Kenya
With support from the PCB project, 17?County Executive Committee Members from across Kenya, along with representatives from national and county governments and farmer organizations, convened in Nakuru to advance the implementation of Kenya’s Crops Regulations, 2019. These efforts are intended to make Kenya’s potato industry more competitive and ensure fair market access, especially for smallholder farmers.
