6 million signatures! The Brexit petition urges the government to revoke Article 50 and halt Brexit. Of course, if you analyse the petition supporters you will see that significant backing comes from cities such as London, Edinburgh, Oxford and Cambridge. Still, it is a big number that cannot be ignored. It is the most popular online petition ever submitted to the parliamentary website. It is our duty as experts in the area of international trade to patiently discuss and explain the challenges. Not only do we owe this to the 6 million people who signed the petition, but also to the future generation on both sides of the channel. As discussed in hundreds of meetings with business executives and inhouse counsels and beyond (https://news.sky.com/video/time-to-pull-revoke-ripcord-says-business-leader-11677318; https://video.bakermckenzie.com/#/videos/1b756103-85ef-498d-a50d-a3e43f5c6ec4?startAt=00m00s; https://video.bakermckenzie.com/#/videos/3f03c0de-cd12-42fb-a5a8-8fb40fd67005): a hard Brexit would be a disaster for both sides of the channel! Look at the data that is available already now, such as in relation to the challenges faced by the automotive sector or the health sector. It is not too late. It must be possible, given what is at stake, to achieve a cross-party majority in parliament, putting nation over party! And on the EU side: In view of the rejection of the Withdrawal Agreement, Donald Tusk has decided to call a European Council meeting on 10 April. We have to continue to be patient and be open to a lengthy extension, provided the UK commits to participate in EU elections. It is possible. #NotTooLate #Revoke #LenghtyExtension #NationOverParty
