Nothing worthwhile comes easy

Have you ever heard the expression, Nothing worthwhile comes easy? After I did, I never forgot it. Probably because I have the attention span of an insect. I’m impatient and want results right away. I’m probably not much different than most people. But that doesn’t help any.

There’s a reason the expression, patience is a virtue, has been around for so long. It’s because patience is not only a virtue, it’s a requirement for success in business and life.

I often joke it only took me 40+ years to be an overnight success. Within those 40+ years was a lot of trying, failing, and trying again. Every time I got a new idea and set out to make it happen, I was continually grounded with thoughts of, why is this taking sooo long?

How about you? Do you want instant success? Do you think just because you “want it” and put in a few hours or days of effort, it will all be yours? Doesn’t work that way.

Here are my steps for achieving something worthwhile:

1. Make sure you want it bad enough. It’s easy to say. But you must commit to seeing the obstacles in your path as being worth what it takes to get you there.
2. Do something toward achieving your goal every day. Even if it is a small step. Improve 1% every day and you will be 37 times better at the same time next year. Consistency matters.
3. Celebrate the small steps and victories. Don’t beat yourself up, because you haven’t achieved your goal or vision yet. So long as you are moving closer every day, that is the goal.

Patience is more than a virtue. It is a form of self-discipline. And with self-discipline comes self-mastery. And there is no greater feeling of accomplishment than being in control of your future, your goals, and your vision.

So, here’s your Action Item and Mission, should you decide to accept it: If you are working on something to help you be the best you can be, and you’re running into obstacle after obstacle, repeat this phrase silently and out loud: I got this. I just need patience. And I just need to keep going.

There is no easy path to achieving something worthwhile and to being the best version of yourself.

You got this. Be patient. Just keep going.
