Nothing about Nutrition at all. Bye!
This evening I have decided to write an article about where I live, where I have been and why I am leaving you.
Nutrition stuff plays a part in it as it is Sicily and here there is a load of madly tasty food. Normally I research a subject well or I already know lots about it before I write, but not tonight.
For those of you who haven't been away somewhere else for a long time, well, neither have I. I have been in Sicily for over four years now. The climate sure beats the United Kingdom and well, that's a lot of what made me move out of my homeland nearly 30 years ago.
I first worked in a bank in England for 4 years from the age of 18 to 22. I got bored of it within a year after the joys of living on my own money and away from my parents subsided. I went ot university and studied for 4 years to become a teacher and with a degree in Education I went to a college in London to do a TEFL course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and landed in Istanbul, Turkey in 1993.
To cut a long story short, while I was in Istanbul three years later, I met a Swiss guy with longish hair and very blue eyes there who was supposed to be playing in a gig (concert) with his band the night I met him and ended up leaving the smog of Istanbul three months later.
I got married in the fresh air in Switzerland.
To cut the story even shorter, I became the lead singer of his band and played my first gig in Austria and then some in Switzerland. Then after a year and a half, came back to UK but this time together. We got as big as a 9 piece band at one point and played Glastonbury festival as well as many others in the South West of England.
My itch to travel came back and I left after getting divorced amicably a few years later and returned to Istanbul for another 7 years. The connection I feel there goes way beyond this life. I know what I think it is but I wouldn't tell you here.
This is me with my then normal long dark hair playing with my band in a bar at an Erasmus student exchange program one night in central Istanbul.
One thing I'll tell you is go for what you believe in.
Take every day as it comes and don't expect too much. We are always comparing ourselves to other people but we don't realize that we are all on different journeys.
I progressed from a general English teacher into an IELTS teacher or tutor as people say. I then moved into a further niche, which is your area, my dear reader. My time getting to know the nutrition professionals on LinkedIn has been lovely.
Why nutrition professionals? Well, I went from 81 kilos....
..down to 69 kilos in ONE month.
How? Well, you'll just have to guess if you aren't somebody I have already talked to on messages!
The simple change in diet made such a huge difference, and it is sustainable. The person who invented it is making a lot of money and has published her new house in the mountains. a clever combination of marketing and having a qualified nutritionist on board her program, with her Facebook group all eagerly awaiting the next Facebook live.....
I decided that I wanted to specialize in English in this area of work-in the nutrition sector. Inspiring.
But, I am writing this as a kind of goodbye to all you dietitian and nutritionist friends I have made here. It seems that you don't really need English much and don't really feel the need to spend time improving it. Perhaps it's not necessary for your life, although I really thought it would be.
I will always be an English coach but will be going on to other areas. I'm always here for you too, if you need me.
IELTS is a big area for me as I have been teaching it for over 12 years. A program for kids and teens is what I am now working on and it will be ready in a few weeks. So many students have come to me in the past and still now-with no reading or writing skills that the IELTS exam expects. A recent one was a young twenty two year old from Saudi Arabia. He didn't read even in his own language.
I also teach Academic English-I was a writing teacher for years at a university in Istanbul as well as an exam writer.
The pressure is huge for people who are not prepared for the IELTS exam but have to do it fast to get to where they want to be. University. Or living abroad.
Or just to get a good job and stand out from the crowd with a band score of a 7.5 or 8.0 instead of a 5.5.
So without editing anything and without caring how this sounds, the raw Louise says 'Good luck and stay in touch' with this last article for dietitians and nutritionists.
I'm still here but shifting focus.
'Ciao' as we say here.
Mind How You Go.
Take Care.
Look After Yourself.
See You Later.
Bye For Now.
