Nothing like your first sales job!

My very first ever sales job was selling random items out a gym bag from a local distributor whom housed these items in a warehouse, performed "pump up meetings" every morning and sent us on our way to sell these darn things any way that we could. My very first day I was to shadow and not jump in no matte what but I had the gift of gab and what was I supposed to do. Most of my life I have ran the streets and in the process met many people so I felt as though I could relate to all different types of people no matter what.

The guy taking me out had told me to watch him as we entered a random office and pitched the secretary in the front on a few items that we had. She had looked at a few things and bought one small item for $5. Rule of thumb was to start big with the $25 items and pitch the little no brainer items as a last resort.

He asked me if I thought it was easy and I said "heck yeah" as we moved onto the next location. He then told me that I could jump in by the end of the day because he knew I would do well, I didn't really help him with the first sale that he made but I did keep the conversation going. So we walked up a staircase and pitched another secretary on the $25 items and she said she didn't like it so we went to the $10 item which she loved they were little trees that she could put on her desk. She showed interest in only the little trees and called another office worker over to see these items as well. She asked if she could buy two little tree's for five dollars less than we had asked for? My associate said no but he could work her a deal on the $25 item and the little tree for $30 so actually she would be getting it for $5 but she refused. As they bickered back and forth the coworker walked away.

I just jumped in because this dude was killing the sale. I asked her where she would put the little tree's and she said one on her desk and one at home. I then asked her where at home? On a desk? by the sink? In a window? She said she had never thought about putting it in the window but thought that it would actually look good there. I then pitched her only the tree's and she bought two full price after I denied the discount. I then asked her is she could call her coworker over and she had ended up buying one tree for her desk.

My coworker had praised me and we made two more sales that day, one by him and one by me all by myself. I knew from that day that it was the funnest and most challenging thing I could do in my life. I have many tales to tell from that job and some are losses and some are wins but I will tell you this, it showed me where my skill set was at and it was the easiest job all around that I had ever done and still is until this day! I will never ever forget the excitement, thrill and splendor of my very first sales job!
