Nothing Lasts Forever...!

Nothing Lasts Forever...!

Lately, I am reading the news of Fortis promoters being arrested and various charges being framed against them. People like me who were ushered into the corporate world of healthcare due to this fastest-growing organization, have a mixed bag of feelings.

As a professional I owe a lot to Fortis, Shivinder Mohan Singh and many of my other mentors in erstwhile Fortis for what I am today. Can’t say that culture infused into the employees which led to the best of patient care with the latest in the field was all a sham. Fortis pioneered corporate healthcare in north India when only Apollo existed. I still recall before 2002 people had to either go to PGI , or Escorts for simple procedures like angioplasty or CABG and getting treated in Delhi was not an easy task.

I have been witness to the golden day of fortis when over a few years we touched 70 plus hospitals. In one of the FICCI Heal conference where the dais was graced both by Sangeetha Reddy and Shivinder, Sangeetha quipped that Shivinder might have added another hospital by the time she got down from the dais. Such immense expansion came with equally massive opportunities for growth for the employees. The employees were groomed for the growth and today no one can deny the fact that you can find ex fortisian in every healthcare industry in India, MEA and SEA.

Fortis changed the paradigm of healthcare in India and can’t say that all this growth and building of Fortis culture was with malicious intent. All of us know Shivinder as a warm person. He had a personal connection with many of the people and remembered their names which were a herculean task given the sheer number of people who worked for Fortis.

Nevertheless, it’s a huge lesson to be learned. It tells us that nothing lasts forever ( seems very philosophical ) and one should be stringent at following and propagating best practices of corporate governance. Even to the extent of being finicky and paranoid about !!!

P.S.-These views are very personal from an ex fortisian and do not have any bearing on anyone else.

I do agree that nothing lasts forever. Also as you sow as you reap is more apt for Fortis than their meteoric up and fall story.?Many of you may not know that Fortis, GGN is the only corporate chain hospital that cheated my company to the tune of Rs. 1,20,000/-? (10% of marketing fees) way back in 2010. They first agreed for MoU and when my company feed them an American Patient they later after discharge? of patient denied any association with my company whereas all medical opinion via email from their senior doctor to Visa recommendation letter to patient Consent letter followed by my company sending NEFT payment for patient admission and later final billing suggest otherwise! The International Patient marketing Head heading the then IPS department is now associated with NH down south, I hope he has not taken this fraud culture to NH?. We have all the email records if anyone disbelieves to our above comments. I have donated the Marketing Fees which we never received to Shivinder as he needs it more than us for his legal troubles.? Nevertheless I per se do admire Fortis story vis-a-vis Apollo till date.

The Fortisian brand of leadership and culture has been very consistent in my interactions with ex-Fortisians leading top healthcare brands in this part of the world. I firmly believe that the 'good' always lasts, eventually stands out and finds a way to continue to grow. While the 'other side' would most certainly be subject to scrutiny (hopefully a fair one). Love the nuanced takeaway, Dr.Gaurav. Interesting piece!
