Notes to team: Being the best together
I’ve decided that I’m going to share the notes that I occasionally write to my social media team at Hatch. While I aim to inspire and motivate the team, it usually stems from me needing to tell myself something. This one was sent on the 14th January – two days before the Rugby League World Cup 2021 draw at Buckingham Palace. A massive project, which seemed to work well. There was a bunch of other stuff going on, and being a team was crucial.

We’re amid what is a busy week for the social team (when isn’t it?).
We’ve got another creative Boost Drinks campaign about to kick off, planning for a Villa Maria campaign with tight turnarounds and lots of intrigue, and a Royal engagement coming up.
I appreciate that everyone is busy, and that you may be feeling the pressure a little bit. Personally speaking, I find that these are the best moments – working with a little more pressure than usual. I’m unsure why, maybe it’s having a little more focus and clarity; no excuses but to focus on what I’m doing right now and doing the best I can. Able to block out distractions a little better. Teamwork seems to play an even more important role – this innate ability that we have to pull together when it’s crunch time.
I’d like to think that as a team over the past couple of years or so, we’ve shown that we work really well in getting the job done, but more importantly: getting it done right and having each other’s backs when we need the support, either physically or mentally.
Let’s continue to back each other when it’s busy – it’s rare that any great work is done by an individual, there’s always a supportive team that pulls together.
So, if you’re feeling it a little bit then have a brew, go for a walk, or a chat, or whatever, it’s cool – because the team’s here. And when you come back, be ready to continue that journey to awesomeness.
Someone once said that ‘that’ll do won’t do”, and it’s right that we hold ourselves to those standards. Awesomeness, or perfection, shouldn’t and doesn’t mean that it has to come at all costs, but we should look at ourselves and have the mentality that we won’t accept mediocrity, or find an excuse for something being ‘good enough’. We should ask, ‘is this as good as it can be?’ if it can be better, make the effort to be better. We’re in the biz of making stuff, so let’s make great stuff… as a team.
Have the courage to want the best and recognise that we’re all capable of being the best together.
Be excellent to each other.
