Notes - Startup Grind: The best quotes from the 2016 Global Conference, and elsewhere
I was combing over my notes and found a number of good quotes from Startup Grind 2016, so I thought I would share them. I also found some notes from some stuff I had written back in 2013. It's fun to see how I wrote, what I thought about, and so I posted that below.
Notes from Startup Grind 2016
Some thoughts I had a long time ago:
Doing it Justice
If you are going to make time to do something; make sure you give yourself enough time to do it justice.
Instead of Putting People in Buckets…
Instead of putting people in buckets, look at people as buckets: buckets that are filled infinitely differently. Go outside and make connections with the people who will be using your product, and find out what’s inside their bucket.
Looking Under the Bed
Uncertainty can be crippling. Fear of the unknown keeps people from pursuing their dreams, trying for that higher position, or starting that new project. People hear a scary noise coming from “under their bed” and lie paralyzed with fear. Fear of the unknown is not always unfounded, but usually a simple peak under the bed reveals that there was no need to worry in the first place.
Starting a new venture? Have an idea? Looking for a new job? What is keeping you back? How can you “look under the bed” and begin to dispel some of the fears of the unknown?
It’s Who They Know
Sometimes its what you know or who you know, but sometimes, all that matters is who they know.
Your Unfinished “Works In Progress”
Maybe you haven’t heard yet, but failure is relative. Failure is falling short of a goal, so if you are still working toward a goal, you are not failing. Failure is an end condition, you haven’t failed until you stop.
