Notes to Self – The Hero's Journey

Notes to Self – The Hero's Journey

I bet you are on a Hero’s Journey.? You may not have thought of it that way and may not know what a hero’s journey is or may not think of yourself as a hero, but I do. ?I am very confident your journey is one that is making you a hero.? The Hero's journey is found throughout mythology, and literature, goes back to the earliest recorded times.? The Hero Journey is about going out into the unknown for personal development, and being on an adventure that creates profound transformation. This timeless structure, popularized by Joseph Campbell, consists of several stages: the Call to Adventure, the Ordeal, the Reward, and the Return with Elixir. We all have been and probably very much still are all on Hero's Journeys both in our personal and professional lives. I am about to start one, a 1,400 km journey in the far north. 715 kms paddling from Whitehorse to Dawson on my paddle board and then 715 kms in the winter on foot over the same ground. My goal is to raise funds for 37 flights to give to people to fly to be with their loved one who is terminally ill for Give A Mile .? More can be found here; all support is greatly appreciated https://giveamile.org/mission-for-miles/

The Hero's Journey framework is not just a narrative device; it can help us frame our personal and professional growth. Here are some ways to apply it:

  1. Embrace the Call to Adventure: Whether starting a new project, entering a new market, or pursuing a passion, heed the call to step out of your comfort zone. Embrace the uncertainty and the potential for growth it brings.
  2. Navigate the Ordeal: Every significant endeavor will face challenges. Approach these ordeals with relentless forward progress. Break down tasks, maintain a steady pace, and remember that perseverance is key.
  3. Celebrate the Reward: Recognize and celebrate your achievements, both big and small. Use these moments of triumph as motivation to continue pushing your limits.
  4. Share the Elixir: The insights and experiences gained from your journey can inspire and benefit others. Share your story, mentor others, and contribute to your community.

True growth and transformation come from venturing into the unknown, confronting our fears, and relentlessly moving forward. As we navigate our personal and professional lives, may we embrace our own hero's journey, living deliberately. Wish me luck ??! I hope to bring back some powerful elixir to share with y’all. I hope you do the same with your Hero Journeys.?
