LET US TRUST HIM MORE
By: Andrew W Roebert

Introduction:

What a joy to know that we can continually trust God. This trust relationship should be a growing aspect of our lives. Each day, each year, we should live in such a way that this aspect grows to a greater and greater degree. Some people may think we are foolish, but we know it is the very foundation of our faith and confidence. I have discovered in my own life how He has proved Himself to me over and over again. Just recently, we as a family, have seen this confidence rewarded once again. After to holding onto to God and trusting Him for in excess of 18 years, He came through for us and proved Himself faithful once again. It was not always easy, but our trust has been rewarded, regardless of the fact that so much time has passed.

So let us use this moment to reaffirm our trust and confidence in Him and let us be even more determined to trust Him even more.

LET US TRUST HIS WORD MORE…

    • There is something so powerful about just trusting His word.
    • Some people allow scepticism about God’s word to pre-empt any confidence they may have in it.
    • What a joy to just be able to take His word at face value and just trust it and believe in it.

Recently we as a family were away on holiday and as we sat outside we looked up at the clear night sky and saw the stars in all their beauty. We don’t know much about the stars and the names, but we began to ask about Orion’s Belt and wondered where it was. We googled it and found it. Then we discovered that Job in the Old Testament wrote about this very group of stars thousands of years ago. Job is the oldest book in the Bible. It might be the oldest book in the world. It's older than Genesis, though Genesis covers older material.

Job 9:9 ‘He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south.’ Job 38:31 ‘Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades? Can you loosen Orion's belt?’

  • We were amazed that something we thought may have been a more modern idea was mentioned in His word thousands of years ago.
  • When you read the book of Job you are in good company. This same book was well-known and read in the day of David, Solomon and the Prophets.
  • Let us trust His word even more.
  • His word is part of the foundation of our faith.
  • In a world that questions everything more and more, let us trust His word ever more.

LET US TRUST HIS PROMISES MORE…

God’s promises are certain. They can be completely depended on. Sometimes when we are awaiting the fulfilment of promises it may seem like it will never happen, but when His time comes, things can move very rapidly.

Hebrews 6:15 ‘Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.’

God is not a man that He should lie. The human propensity is towards lying. God’s nature is completely different. He has never sinned and never lied and in essence is unable to lie. The Bible tells us that He is truth and as such only speaks truth. Another reason we can trust His promises is because He never changes and He is never confused. Humans constantly change their minds.

As situations change or as we age or even as we get more information it leads to the changing of minds on almost every aspect of life. God is not like that. He does not make a decision and then hundreds of years later change the decision because the first one was wrong or not a good decision.

He has endless wisdom, so when He speaks and gives us a promise, it is because He has the big picture and knows what is best and does not need to review it!Perhaps you have given up on some of the promises you feel God gave for your life and family?

I think it is time to pull them out again and begin to believe and trust Him again and to an even greater degree.

LET US TRUST THE POWER OF HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD MORE…

With His blood there is:
1. Atonement.
2. Forgiveness.
3. Reconciliation.
4. Access to God.
5. Victory over sin.
6. Cleansing of sin. (Only His blood can truly wash the stains from our hands!)
7. Victory over the devil.
8. Relationship with God.
9. Peace in death.
10. His blood will spare us the judgement we are due.

Let us trust in the power of His precious blood even more. May we understand and rest in the knowledge of what His blood means in our lives. Because the blood of Jesus was shed, no further blood is required.
LET US TRUST IN HIS ABIDING PRESENCE MORE…

    • He has undertaken to never leave us nor abandon us.
    • He has undertaken to be the same, today, tomorrow and forever.
    • His presence in our daily lives makes all the difference.
    • If we know His presence with us, not challenge that life can bring our way needs to uproot us.
    • His abiding presence was with Daniel in the lion’s den.
    • His abiding presence was with the young men in the fiery furnace.
    • His abiding presence was with the nation of Israel when the angel of death passed by.
    • His abiding presence allow Peter to get out of the boat and walk on the water.
    • Pursue His abiding presence in your life daily.
    • Welcome His abiding presence and walk in it as you trust Him.
    • Trust His abiding presence to lead you and to be the umpire in your life.

Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. (Amplified Bible)

Let us trust in His abiding presence more…

LET US REST IN HIM BECAUSE WE TRUST HIM MORE…

  • If we are not trusting Him then we do not have ‘an anchor for the soul’ and we can be ‘tossed about’ like a wave in the ocean.
  • If we are not trusting Him we should look around in fear and dread and we will begin to sink, just like Peter did as he walked on the water and took his eyes off of Jesus.
  • When we are trusting Him we can rest in Him.
  • Then we can rest on His word.
  • Then we can rest on His promises.
  • Trusting leads to resting.
  • When we decide to trust God and actively pursue a lifestyle of trusting a natural rest begins to happen.
  • If we try to operate as ‘back seat drivers’ we will be anxious about everything.
  • My late father was born in a certain town and then when he started in the ministry moved to another town about 1000 kilometres away. He often went home and grew to know the road extremely well. Years later when I began to drive and we would return home for the holidays, I would drive. My father would relax in the passenger’s seat and catch a bit of sleep. I would drive and he would appear to be asleep, but then I would hear him say, ‘be careful, the next corner is a sharp bend’. Even in his sleep he did not completely rest because he knew the road so well.
  • Sometimes we think that we need to do that for God. We should stay alert to help Him with our advice and experience.
  • Rest assured, He knows the road and we can trust in His capability!

IN THE LONG RUN, YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU LEARNED TO TRUST HIM.

  • Learning to trust Him and developing this aspect of our lives will serve us well in the long term.
  • If we can learn to trust Him early, we can save ourselves a great degree of heartache.
  • Encourage your children and your grand-children to trust Him.
  • If we learn to trust Him in good times, then when we go through tough times it will be the natural thing for us to do.
  • Don’t wait for tough times to make this decision or to develop this ‘heart attitude’.
  • Develop it now, grow in this dimension now and when challenges come you will be well prepared.

TRUSTING HIM BRINGS WITH IT ITS OWN REWARDS.

As we trust in the Lord and He will give us the desires of our hearts.
Psalms 37:3-4 ‘Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of 2. As we trust in the Lord leads to greater happiness and joy in life. Proverbs 16:20 ‘And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.’4.  As we trust the Lord we can be fruitful in all times, not anxious in the year of drought or famine Jeremiah 17:7-8 ‘Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD.  8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.’6.  The mercy of the Lord surrounds those who trust in Him. Psalm 32:10 ‘Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.’8.  Those who trust in the Lord will be safety and security. Proverbs 29:25 ‘The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.’ Life, rest, Joy and peace is what God has in store for us as we trust Him.

Those who trust in the Lord will be prospered. Proverbs 28:25, 26 ‘He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, but he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.’

Those who trust in the Lord will be delivered from wicked schemes and plans of evil people. Ps 37:40 ‘And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, because they trust in Him.’

We can know peace as we trust God. Isa 26:3 ‘You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.’

LET US TRUST HIM MORE…

There is an old hymn with the following words:

’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His word; Just to rest upon His promise; Just to know, Thus saith the Lord. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him, How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er, Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more.

It was written by Louisa Stead.

This is her story: ‘It was a beautiful sunny day. Louisa Stead, her husband, and her daughter Lily, decided to go for a picnic. They went picnicking on Long Island Sound. While having their picnic, the Steads heard a scream. It was from a young boy. Mr. Stead ran to the rescue. Louisa Stead and young Lily watched helplessly as Mr. Stead and the boy drowned. Their troubles were not over yet, however, and without her husband, Mrs. Stead became very poor and destitute. Yet God never left her. He provided for her always and she and her daughter made it through. Louisa learned to trust God, and thus the words to the song 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.' Shortly after this incident, Louisa and her daughter Lily moved to South Africa where they became missionaries.’

Let us trust Him more, for He will take care of you!
