Notes on GoldenSource’s V10 release

By Swati Tyagi Chief Product Officer, GoldenSource

It’s been a particularly busy and productive time for the engineering team at GoldenSource, and I’m excited to share some of the great work we’ve been doing on our latest release, V10 of the GoldenSource portfolio of products.

V10 represents the single-most significant advancement we’ve made in our software portfolio. It has been in development for many months now, with a major focus on deeper data analytics.

As in everything we do, our North Star is data management excellence. We are constantly pursuing innovative ways for financial services practitioners to garner the most value from their data as possible.

Data is more than just an accurate piece of information that's flowing downstream and feeding other systems. It’s a competitive advantage – the foundation of every critical business decision.

We believe that data should be more than just discrete sets of numbers on a screen. Instead, those numbers need to tell a story. They need context.

Our focus on facilitating deeper data analytics has led the team to a wide-ranging number of enhancements coming with V10, which I’m happy to outline in this second edition of my quarterly update.

1. We’ve introduced an early analytics layer

While it’s possible to use an array of excellent tools to derive more insights from data, the problem is in finding a way to connect these tools so that they generate reports that tell a cohesive story. Many of our clients have been telling us that it’s a cumbersome challenge to feed data into a format that’s acceptable to those tools, the result of which is that important trends and analysis are left hidden from them.

In response, we’ve developed an analytics layer in V10 so that our users can determine what’s happening earlier in the process. No, we’re not becoming a BI provider – but as a data management repository and as providers of gold copy data, we can surface critical trends as data visualizations so that our users can spot them on screen sooner.

?This early analytics layer builds on the ways we’ve already been helping users with data quality and exception management. We enable our users to look at the data visually so they can focus on potential insights – and we’ve made that experience even better by showing where the exceptions are more clearly with fewer clicks.

2. We’ve aligned our entity onboarding workflow with BPMN standards

Our V10 release also features a pre-configured, easily extensible Entity On-Boarding Workflow. In previous releases, workflows were not visualized, and therefore much more difficult to follow. Now, users can use this easy-to-follow flow chart to know with just a glance where all the checkpoints and triggers in the process are, and using drag-and-drop, can add tasks to the workflow instantly.

This easy-to-use interface helps create more effective inter-departmental communication. With clear and concise definition and configuration for each task created for each department, implementation teams can configure workflows more efficiently.

3. We’ve visualized and centralized the system setup and administration process

V10 also introduces a one-time set-up for implementation that summarizes all of the products and different features to which a GoldenSource user has access. From a single screen, a user can configure or set up each piece of software needed.

It’s essentially a visual walkthrough – one single repository of all of the switches and things needed in to implement any GoldenSource product.

?4. We’ve also built visual performance monitoring tools

Our new release also includes a lot of great visual monitoring tools. System Administrators and managed services users can see a dashboard with all the processes that are running, what the load is like on the servers, and whether there is a performance block that needs to be addressed, proactively.

5. We’re committed to our collaborative development process

One of the reasons we’ve been able to make so many advances in V10 is our highly collaborative approach to the development process. We have weekly product meetings with our development teams where early product designs are presented, discussed and critiqued. This early-stage focus on POC (proof of concept) and MVP (minimum viable product) helps us to course-correct before we go too far down the wrong path.

We’re working on bringing our product prototypes earlier and earlier into our process, as we’ve found that the sooner we checkpoint early designs, the less work we need to do on them as we get further into the actual production. At the same time, we are in continual contact with our users to learn how they are using our products and to get their input on prioritization for our next releases.

That’s all for this month. As always, I welcome any comments or questions you may have. Please feel free to contact me any time – any and all feedback is very welcome!
