Notes from seeing Tony Robbins in Person

Agenda: Who → Why → What → How → When

"It's rare to find people that are genuinely happy all the f*cking time."

In fact, it's frowned upon. But the greatest gift we can give the world is our own happiness because then we bring happiness to the people we care about in our life. Life is too short to suffer. We owe it to ourselves because our time is limited. Envision living in a beautiful state of mind everyday!

When your energy is low, it's due to psychology. "I let go of outside stressors that I can’t control. It’s not my fault, it’s the mind." - Tony Robbins

Who?

  • Tony Robbins: "Chaotic" and "abusive" childhood, grew abnormally due to pituitary tumor. Ran away from home at 17. Never went to college. Worked as janitor. "Don’t let anyone take your own happiness".
  • To turn his life around, he read autobiographies, studied Neurolinguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnosis with scientists.
  • Tony Robbins was invited to speak at the inaugural keynote TED conference. Tony's coaching clients include Bill Clinton, Serena Williams, Marc Benioff (Salesforce CEO). Collectively, his clients produce trillions in revenue. As a business owner, Tony generates ten billion in yearly revenue.
  • He was named one of the "Top 50 Business Intellectuals" by Accenture and one of the "Top 200 Business Gurus" by the Harvard Business Press.
  • Tony had funded more than 200 million meals to children, families and seniors globally. "because I know I can’t control everything and I must let go of what I can’t control. Life is an opportunity to bring happiness to others by leading by example."
  • Tony starts every day with an ice bath. "I just go. I don’t negotiate with myself. I don't dip in a toe at a time".

Why?

How would your life completely change for the better if you could be in a happy state instantly?

  • Life is the dance between what you fear and what you desire.
  • Pain tolerance sufficient to deal with failure and work past it.
  • Humans can get addicted to their favorite "flavors of suffering".
  • Moment to moment, we are influenced by our state of mind. Our state of mind is our beliefs, values, and expectations in a point in time.
  • Physiology empowers the innovation.
  • New state of mind comes from new focus.
  • We’ve become so spoiled, we get pissed from little shit.
  • Execute what your soul is capable of. Pleasure is in the body, joy is in the soul.
  • Peak state creates peak performance. If a low energy state is suffering, we should aspire to live in a beautiful state feeling fulfillment. You’re happily achieving if you’re fulfilled.
  • The highest achievers discretely suffer from lack of fulfillment. Two out of fifty interviewed billionaires are happy. Natural to get angry when expectations are not met. If you’re looking for shit, you’ll turn it into shit. Condition your life to appreciate and overcome.
  • You’re the problem, not lack of money. The most successful people are more resourceful than happy. They never blame lack of resources. The ultimate resource is human emotion. Avoid burn out.

What?

Read The Untethered Soul: Summary in PDF | The Power Moves and study your Reticular Activating System.

Motion comes from emotion and vice versa. Success is energy channeled with certainty.

  • Decision means "to cut off from"
  • I am not going to suffer!

The most successful and powerful create momentum. Consider the energy required to escape earth's gravity vs reaching the moon once already beyond low orbit. Consider going across space and even controlling time once past the moon.

How?

Be aware that changing habits feels unnatural.

  • Lift your hands and extend your arms on each side of your body like wings.
  • Quickly bring your hands together, clap them together, interlacing fingers. Do this twice. Take note of which thumb is on top.
  • Without slowing, repeat the clapping motion from hands extended outward but change the thumb that ends up on top.
  • How many times must you practice swapping the thumb that ends up on top before it feels as easy as the first time?
  • How did the the motions change your emotion?

Train the patterns of the brain. Generate energy with triggers.

Example: Habits of motion like the prompt to stand up from a sitting position and YELL and wiggle hands outward every time you hear the phrase “put your books down” (technique is based on neuropsychology).

What are the two most stressful thoughts right now? Practice control by bringing what's dragging down from the back of the mind to the forefront. Then, use your hand to feel your pulse. Think of three positive memories while touching your heart. Focus on being aware of your body and reliving positive experiences to end suffering.

Refuse to tolerate negative emotions → Trigger / Prompt → Motion → Energy

  • Is there a movement that changes the way you feel?
  • Is there a memory that excites you when you focus on it?
  • How can you catch yourself feeling down and immediately snap out of it?
  • Why will you feel in a beautiful state even when...?
  • What does an extraordinary life look like for you at the next level within 6-12 months?

Improve attitude with exponential change in thinking, feeling, and moving.

  • Have the courage to pursue the dream. Be willing to sacrifice for the objective and appreciate the opportunity. "I do it because my competitor won't".

Never stay angry. 90 seconds is okay. Natural to get angry when expectations are not met. If you want change in your life right now, trade expectation for appreciation.

"We suck the energy out in our own heads!"
  • Shaking your ass awkwardly in public.
  • Define what 10x/100x status quo would be without getting caught up in the unknown how.
  • "All positive change starts with being honest with yourself". Decide where you will outperform everyone else if you want those kinds of results, "play full out"
  • Define where you are going and articulate it simply. Demonstrate an "earned secret" that reflects a unique capacity to execute to convince others. Present knowledge of the unit economics to get others to invest in you.
  • Feel memories like the experience you are most grateful for or the place and time you felt most proud or the time you had the best sexual orgasm.

Mental Imagery

  • Achieve results before results arrive to increase certainty. Practice perfection.
  • Perfect practice makes perfect. More possible with visualization. Use the mind’s eye to imagine yourself executing perfectly what you must do next. Do this over and over again to outperform those that practice imperfectly in real life[1].
  • Each visualization should be more detailed and feel better. Progress equals happiness.
  • Exercise and stretch for real, measure how far you can go, invest in time to visualize yourself going further, and further, and further and then execute the mental imagery to brings results into reality.

Think like an owner, not an operator.

  • Realize negativity is not an original thought and refocus on appreciation.
  • Patience and persistence to buy only below cost and sell only at a profit.
  • Sell products to ideal customers who will buy from you even when times are tough. Know about their needs that they know themselves and present an irresistible offer.
  • "Customers like women demand variety in the solution."

When?

Losers react, leaders anticipate. Anticipation is power.

  • What does an extraordinary life look like for you at the next level?
  • What's preventing you from making it happen?
  • What needs to shift? What actions can you take to change it?
