A NOTE TO THOSE LAID OFF RECENTLY
It's not your fault.
Everyday we hear the unpleasant but real news of companies having to let go of talented individuals because their plan didn't stick the test of time. Its the harsh reality in today's business context.
For those affected by the recent layoff's I know its an uphill battle financially, emotionally and socially.
Its not "why" this happened that you should focus on...
Focus on "how" this never ever happens again.
A few tips I recommend you implement through this journey that will help you come out stronger.
1) Cut down your monthly expenses by 20% ASAP
2) Look at your CV minus the brands, designations, team sizes and see what story it conveys to the world.
3) Get emotional support from friends, family, work groups etc. We all need it during tough times.
4) Skill Up. You have time and access to content to skill yourself, so stop making excuses and get to it.
5) Learn the business. Your functional expertise is great, now learn how to read a P&L, how are businesses run and make money. Your functional skills articulated in the business context is what will get you your next job.
6) Network Network Network... Everyone else is busy so it's you who has to take the first step.
Lastly, remember this is a phase. How you come out of this, is still partially up to you. Hang in there, do a little everyday to add value to YOURSELF.
