? Note to Self: Get Better Notes!

"The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory." – Chinese Proverb

Have you ever come out of a meeting feeling like you've captured all the vital points, only to revisit your notes and find them jumbled and lacking clarity? Taking notes is an art that, when mastered, can become your superpower in retaining and recalling important information. So here is my advice to you:

  1. The Cornell Method: Divide your note page into two columns. On the right, jot down main ideas during the meeting. Post-meeting, use the left column to summarize or jot down cues to trigger memory. At the bottom, write a summary of the entire page.
  2. Use Symbols and Shorthand: Create your own system of symbols (e.g., "->" for actions, "?" for follow-ups) to quickly jot down ideas without writing full sentences. Over time, this becomes instinctual and speeds up your note-taking process.
  3. Digital Assist: While the pen and paper method is classic, digital tools allow you to store, search, and organize notes effectively. Platforms like Evernote or OneNote come equipped with templates, tagging, and other features that streamline the note-taking process.

Recommended Tool: "OneNote" by Microsoft, for structured, easily searchable note-taking with cloud sync capabilities.

How do you currently ensure that your notes from meetings are actionable and easy to refer back to?
