Here we are again, on the Sunday before what’s sure to be an awesome week. Thank you for spending a few moments with me.

This past week, I’ve been talking to a lot of folks while working to build a new network (or "sphere of influence," as Gary Laney?would say) here in Texas. It feels like starting from scratch. ?? Exhausting and uncomfortable, but I’ll admit—it’s not as tough as the first time around.
?
This week's article dives into indecision and the discomfort that comes with growth. Personally, I’ve accepted that feeling uncomfortable is just part of my life. After all, who just sold a home with a 2.9% interest rate, moved to rural Texas at 7%, and is in the midst of scaling a company to the next level? ??♀? Talk about uncomfortable! But there was no indecision—sometimes, to hit those big goals, you have to make bold moves.

By the way, if you read the article and it feels a little too familiar, like it’s speaking directly to you—well, maybe it is. It’s a bit like when I’m in church and feel like the preacher is looking right at me! Feeling a little guilty lately?

The Power of Acting at the Right Time

As the seasons begin to shift, it’s the perfect reminder of how quickly time moves—and how important timely action is in business. This week, I had an interesting conversation with a long-time client that really brought this home.
He’s built a successful business over the years and is nearing, if not already at, retirement age. It’s a point in life where he and his wife should be enjoying the fruits of their labor. But he’s still out in the field, doing what’s familiar and comfortable, while his sons and daughter are eager to take on more responsibility. At least, I think they are.

We talked about the idea of starting to transition the reins over to them, grooming the next generation to lead the company. When I suggested my 10-point operations review to help guide the process, his response was, “We will see.”? That's the same answer I got a year ago when I suggested something similar.?It’s a classic case of waiting for the perfect moment or avoiding the discomfort of change, even when you know that change is needed. He knows it’s time to step back, but the familiar feels safe.

This happens to so many small business owners who’ve poured their lives into growing something successful—letting go can feel like losing control. But the truth is, stepping back can be the most strategic move for long-term success. This conversation reminded me that timely action isn’t just about making quick decisions—it’s about making the right decisions at the right time. If my client waits too long, the transition may become more difficult, and opportunities for his family to take the business to the next level might pass by. This is where timely action comes into play. Acting now, even if it feels uncomfortable, could mean the difference between smoothly transitioning leadership and struggling through it later.
