A Note From @TosBoss

October 8, 2023

Good morning.

?It's a beautiful day in Las Vegas as I write this.?I just saw 2 flights of geese headed south which means winter is coming.?

It's also the time for new client catch-up projects at TheOfficeSquad.? You know, entering an entire year of bank transactions into the accounting software for tax time.? This week I returned to being a bookkeeper for a few days to help the squad with just that.? It reminded me as to why "it's just data entry" as folks like to call it, is not that simple.? It’s easy enough to tap the keys and put numbers in the system but knowing what each of those items was for, how that single transaction affects the business (hint - taxes), and what account in the COA it belongs in is why you need someone that truly knows what they are doing. By the way, a deposit is not always income and there is "No Miscellaneous in Bookkeeping".??

?Okay, done venting.? This week's lesson learned is on balance and letting go.? Tough to do as a parent.? Also tough to do as a leader or manager.? Especially for the entrepreneur or business owner who needs to hand over their "baby" to someone else in order for the business to grow

?I hope you find value in my message.?- Dida

The Art of Balance

Navigating the Thin Line Between Overmanagement and Undermanagement

By Dida Clifton

In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, finding the sweet spot between over-management and under-management is akin to walking a tightrope. While it's natural to want to steer the ship in the right direction, sometimes less is more. Overmanagement, with its penchant for micromanaging every detail, can stifle creativity and hinder employee autonomy. It's crucial to recognize that under management, on the other hand, is not a license for hands-off leadership but an invitation for chaos. Striking the right balance is an art, and in this edition, we explore how a measured approach to management can lead to enhanced productivity and a thriving work culture.

Embracing the philosophy of 'less is more' doesn't mean abdicating responsibility; it's about fostering a culture of trust and empowerment. When leaders refrain from overmanaging, they create space for innovation to flourish. Allow your team the freedom to explore solutions and make decisions. The magic often happens when individuals feel a sense of ownership over their work. Recognize that under management is not synonymous with neglect but an opportunity to guide, support, and mentor. By striking the right balance, your small business can unlock untapped potential and cultivate a workplace where creativity and productivity coalesce harmoniously.

Remember, successful leadership is not about wielding control but about fostering an environment where both leaders and team members can thrive. So, let's navigate the delicate equilibrium between overmanagement and under-management, sculpting a workplace that inspires and propels your small business to new heights.
