A Note From Our Chief Program Officer, Dr. Omar Villanueva
Beyond Benign—Green Chemistry for a Sustainable Future
practicing sustainability through chemistry
I’m Omar, and I’m thrilled to join Beyond Benign as the Chief Program Officer. As I begin this new chapter, I look forward to contributing to the growth of green chemistry education and advancing this community's important work.
The future of green chemistry is bright, and its integration into education—from K-12 to higher ed—will ensure a new generation of scientists and global citizens who prioritize sustainability in their personal and professional lives. With the continued efforts of passionate individuals, organizations like Beyond Benign, and academic institutions, we can drive meaningful change and make sustainability an intrinsic part of our collective scientific identity. Here, you can read more about my journey to green chemistry and my experience with the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) as Chemistry Department Chair at Georgia Gwinnett College, a GCC signer.
Beyond Benign is hosting (and attending!) a number of events this year, and I look forward to connecting with you in person or online soon. If you’re attending ACS Spring 2025 in March, stop by kiosk #3550 to say hello, chat about green chemistry education, and explore opportunities to collaborate.
