Congratulations to all Leaving Certificate students on both their points and CAO offers.??
This is an incredible achievement given the events of recent years, and you should all be extremely proud of yourselves. No matter the outcome, remember that this does not define you and there are plenty of options available.??
We understand that this can be a stressful time for both students and their families, especially this year surrounding deferrals, accommodation, and the cost of living crisis.?
It is important to be kind to yourself and take care of your physical and mental health during this time, for example eating good food, exercising and staying active, and getting enough sleep. These can all help reduce stress and anxiety, as well as boost your mood and keep you healthy.?
One of the best ways to deal with stress and anxiety is to also make time for yourself and do things that you enjoy, such as relaxing and watching a movie, practicing a hobby, or going out and socializing with friends and family. Be sure to also check in with your peers during this time.?
Remember that the offer that you received does not define you or your future. There are still lots of options available to you and there is always a way to get to where you want to be.?
There are a number of options for everyone, such as applying for Post Leaving Certificate courses (PLCs) or other short courses. These courses expand your options into many other university courses, while also letting you see if a particular subject area is for you.?
Deferring your place for a year is also an option, as this can give you time to think about various opportunities, other plans, and what you really want to do, to save money and search for accommodation.?

Apprenticeships are an example of another option available to you in order to pursue your desired career, while also gaining hands-on experience in that career. For more information on apprenticeships, please visit Apprenticeship.ie at https://apprenticeship.ie/career-seekers/get-started/discover??
With regard to finances and the cost of living, there are several options and resources available to you. PLCs and short courses are often more affordable options than university degrees, while also helping you gain experience and expand your opportunities. Deferring your place would also allow you to save for a year, and reflect upon your options. Apprenticeships are also a more affordable option, which also helps you gain experience, and provides funding during your training.??
Furthermore, there are grants and supports that students and their families can avail themselves of. These include college grants and subsidies, such as SUSI and HEAR. Many colleges and universities also offer their own support systems and scholarship, which can be viewed on their websites. Further support and financial planning options can be viewed and discussed with Money Advice and Budgeting Services (MABS), Citizens Information, and the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Student Assistance Fund (SAF).??
