Note #2. Eastern European medical personnel
Alena Vladimirskaya
The most famous headhunter in Russia, read by 280 000 candidates.
We're happy to greet you with our Note #2, dedicated to Eastern European doctors and nurses.
Eastern European medical personnel is one of the most demanded professional sphere for many markets. Companies often request medical staff from us; however, many myths and misunderstandings exist around this type of specialists, and we'd like to resolve them.
Nurses and mid-level personnel
Eastern European nurses and middle-level medical personnel are well-known all over the world due to both the quality of their work and dedication, as well as decisiveness when it comes to vital and urgent problem solving. These competencies are directly connected to a high-quality vocational education in Eastern Europe, which nurses and patronage personnel usually undertake.?
At the same time, there are some difficulties: most of the middle-level medical employees from Eastern Europe and CIS in general aren't advanced in English. They can pass all the professional tests but may fail in knowledge of English. That's why, in order to find a nurse or a patronage employee, who can be ready to relocate easily, you need to search diligently.
On average a mid-level specialist / nurse are ready to work under terms of 1,500 - 2,000 USD per month. Due to the high level of services provided, specialists are demanded in European clinics, Israeli hospitals, and in MENA region nowadays.
Average age of a medical employee is 40 years. Typical portrait of a qualified nurse of this age is: a female, having a family with already grown-up kids (high school age and older). She is ready for a semiannual or annual contract with physical relocation, and further, if prolongation takes place, she can help her family relocate as well.
Doctors
Eastern European doctors are highly-qualified, and when they enter markets of Europe, Israel, and MENA, they have a high demand for their services and long queues for patients' visits. This happens primarily due to our doctors' attentiveness, responsibility and extensive experience.
There are a few myhts about Eastern Europe doctors, leading to misunderstandings and failures of their contracts overseas, for example:
Russian specialists are not always aware of a cutting-edge medical technologies.
NOT TRUE — in the recent 20 years a lot of private hospitals have been opened and developed in Eastern Europe, transporting advanced techniques, as well as the professional education and best equipment. That's why Eastern European doctors are well aware of how to work with modern technologies in medicine. Currently European clinics have left the Eastern European market, but since they did it only recently (a few months ago), doctors' qualification hasn't lagged behind. Moreover, doctors are now interested to work in the international medical institutions in order not to lose the skills having been acquired previously.
Thus, on a professional level doctors from Eastern Europe are on the same stage (or higher) than European colleagues.?A doctor from Eastern Europe is willing to relocate for a salary of 5,000 USD.?
Main challenges concern the lack of medical licensing in Eastern Europe, since there the high medical education is very strong and is considered sufficient to work and build your career in hospitals. Doctors don't understand licensing and aren't willing to pay for it abroad. Consequently, the biggest problem is to explain the necessity of this licensing for them and make them pass it. This can be solved by aiding a newly hired doctor to find a correct license and open a credit account for it (the funds may be partially taken from a salary payment).?

Hospital managers
There is a great niche for hospitals which currently hire hospital managers, since many European clinics' subsidiaries have been closed in Eastern Europe, and medical sphere managers are currently looking for new opportunities. This involves a huge range of specialists, including operational and financial directors and many other specialists, who have been developing clinics and patronage centers.
