Nostalgia and New Beginnings: So Fresh Opens in Ibadan

This picture holds countless memories of my friends and me during my first job at Mr. Biggs, one of Nigeria's largest Quick Service Restaurant chains. Looking at it fills me with nostalgia and reminds me of how far I've come in the 19 years since then. In just 2 days, I will be opening my newest healthy food restaurant outlet just a street away from the very same Mr. Biggs location I worked in Ibadan, where it all started. Join me as I take you on a journey from my fast-food days to my current pursuit of promoting wellness through healthy food.

My time at Mr. Biggs was more than just a job; it was a richly valuable experience that shaped my career and ignited my passion for the food business. Those early days taught me the ins and outs of the industry, providing a deep understanding of running a successful restaurant chain. Little did I know then that these experiences gained from working those very long 16 hours daily, would lay the foundation for my future, starting and leading Nigeria’s pioneer and biggest healthy food chain, So Fresh. I went on to work at Nigeria Bottling Company & Chevron Nigeria before finally chasing my passion.

Over time, my passion for food grew, but so did my awareness of the impact, eating junk food has on our health. I desired to make a difference by offering healthier options that didn't compromise on taste, nutrition, or quality. This desire for change led me to explore the world of nutrition. With each step of my journey, I gained valuable knowledge about nutrition and the power of wholesome ingredients. I discovered that food can be both delicious and nourishing, positively impacting our physical and mental well-being. This realization fuelled my determination to create a space where people can enjoy meals that promote health and vitality. So, in 2010, together with my wife and business partner, Abimbola, So Fresh was born. Today, we have over 15 branches spread across 4 states in Nigeria, and we are just getting started.

In recent years, there has been a significant global shift in consumer attitudes toward food, with a growing awareness of its impact on overall health and well-being. People now seek nutritious and balanced food options that align with their busy lifestyles. I'm thrilled to have started the healthy food movement in Nigeria through So Fresh and inspired many more on that journey to build a healthier and more productive nation.

As we prepare to open our new restaurant in Ibadan, this Saturday, May 20th, 2023, I feel a sense of anticipation and gratitude. The support from family, friends, investors, and mentors throughout my journey has been invaluable. They have kept my dreams alive even during the toughest moments. Their belief in my vision and encouragement has been instrumental in reaching this milestone. A special shout to my wife, Abimbola, a brilliant and astute business leader, with whom together we’ve been creating magic for the last 12 years.

So Fresh Ibadan will be a place where Ibadan residents can enjoy fresh, delicious, and nutritious meals in a friendly and warm environment. Every meal will be crafted using fresh, seasonal ingredients packed with nutrients. From creamy parfaits to vibrant salads to nourishing warm bowls, flavourful wraps, juices, smoothies, yummy zobo, and tiger-nut beverages on the menu, it will be a celebration of good food and well-being.
