Nostalgia, Gratitude, and Lessons for a New Year
Returning to Tandil, the city of my childhood in Argentina, after more than 20 years was a journey full of emotions, nostalgia, joy, and reflection. I had the opportunity to travel there for Christmas, where I could reconnect with beautiful landscapes, cherished memories, and the people who shaped the person I am today.
Tandil is where I lived some of the happiest years of my life. Walking through its streets felt like being transported back to those carefree days. I felt profoundly grateful for the privilege of having such a wonderful childhood. Memories of running in the backyard, spending time in the hills and bush, and afternoons playing with friends at the park and school, are treasures I will carry in my heart forever.
One of the most moving moments of this trip was reuniting with my primary school classmates. We gathered to reminisce about our shared past, and as the stories flowed, one thing became very clear: our class had an incredible camaraderie. It wasn’t just a handful of close friendships here and there; the whole group was connected, motivated, and willing to listen to one another. That strong bond made our time together memorable and deeply meaningful.
Reflecting on this, I realise how those childhood lessons resonate with me today, especially as an educator. This year, I want to focus on three key takeaways from my visit to Tandil:
At In Spanish, it’s all about creating unforgettable experiences. That’s why our approach is not just about teaching the language but also about building connections, sharing culture, and leaving students with memories that last a lifetime. We don’t just teach Spanish; we offer a gift for life.
This trip reminded me of the power of shared experiences. I am grateful for the life I’ve built in Australia, for the opportunity to share the beauty of the Spanish language and culture, and for the chance to foster connections that go beyond the classroom.
As I move forward into this new year, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that every student and teacher at In Spanish feels part of something special: an experience filled with joy, discovery, and lasting impact—just like the memories of my own childhood.
Bring on 2025!
